Hi there,

I was driving my Saxo and suddenly heard a "BOOM" noise. Everything was still working and I stopped to check if everything is OK (everything looked OK). When trying to start the car again everything looked dead and I didn't get any starter noise. I can start the car using cables but it will also turn off when I stop in red lights. Also the right hand side relay inside the car was buzzing.

When turning the key half, I had all blinkers and light on the seshboard but the head lights are not working. When clicking the warning sign on the relay starts buzzing again and it looks like it doesn't get enough power.

I've checked the battery and it showed 10.43v, then I replaced the buzzing relay with a new one and the buttery showed 12.6v but still no starting.

Can you please give me any advice? :y:

What could have caused the BOOM noise?

Thanks a million :y:

blown fuses in the rop right of under the bonnet?
either that or the fuel cut of switch, same place as above with a red switch!

Thanks evans1089,

I've checked the fuses under the bonnet and they all look ok. I also tried clicking the fuel cut off switch and it didn't help. When pressing the cut of switch button there was not really a feeling of a button pressed down so I'll try it again anyway.

The confusing thing is that I can start the car using starting cables connected to another car. I was sure it will be the battery but it shows 12.6v.

Any ideas? :y:

Thanks

Thanks for the tip.

How can I check the earth? Should I just check if it is connected?

Because it's Saturday night and everybody will have a hangover tomorrow I thought I'll make a short summery of the problem :drink: ;)

- It all started after I heard a BOOM from the engine while driving. Everything was still working till I stopped to check what happened.

- The car doesn't start and doesn't make any sound when turning the key except a click in the engine.

- I can start the car with cables

- The battery shows 12.5v

- When half-turning the key, the board indicators are on. When trying to use the blinkers, warning blinker button etc, they do function but very slow like they don't get enough power. Also the top-right relay above the fuses inside the car is making some buzz noises when trying to use the blinkers etc

- When turning the headlights on, all indicators turn off and there are no lights.

- I checked all the fuses inside the car and under the bonnet and they look ok.

Thanks guys :y:
My mother in law is comming in few days and I really need the car to be able to take her around the place, so it's urgent :y::fcuk:

My sax did this, i looked through endless possabilities of what the problem could be. In the end i just thought fu*k it the battery is probably ancient anyway so i went and bought a new one. It worked :y:

EDIT: This was my thread at the time... http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113816

Thanks Kristel,

The battery is showing 12.5V so I'm not soo sure about it. I also heard a BOOM (like driving on a stone that jumps up tp the car) when it happened so there must be something that got burned ;).

Are there any hidden fuses or relays I should check?
Because I can manage to start the car with cables I assume it must be just something electric (no fuel pump or start motor etc), am I right??

Please help

Thanks :y:

have you still got a fanbelt on? the boom could of been this hitting your bonnet as it flew off possibly, without a fanbelt your battery wont recharge an youll be goin nowhere.

Thanks for the help :y:

where can I find the earth places I should check?

after I heard the BOOM I was looking back and there was nothing on the road. Also the battery has 12.5V in it so it is charged.

Is it possible that the battey made the BOOM sound? Can the battery show 12.5V but still be fulty?

kristel10589, did you just change the battery and voila everything was working fine or did you maybe replaced some other parts as well?

Cheers :y:

Hi again,

Just wanted to update you on what I just found. When I was trying to start the car few minutes ago the battery went down to 0.1V ;) the same happened when trying to switch on the headlights. So it's the battery :fcuk: like kristel10589 said :y::y:

Thanks for all the tips :y:
I'll try changing it tomorrow and let you know ;)
