but i have just done a search on all the members and 70% of all members, are with new members who have joined, but have not posted,there is sum who have not posted
in the last month or 2, but sum as far as back as 2003, i mean there DETAILS are saved to the server so IT DEFINELTLY MAKES the server run slower DONT YOU ALL agree, if not say now,personally i think it does, when most have registered and either posted 0-10 POSTS in the last 1-2 YEARS

so i think that these kind of people need to be deleted, to make ARE site RUN faster

If I so wish, I can delete user accounts... Currently I choose not to... a decision I have the right to choose.

Having LOTS of members stored in the database does not slow the server down. The number of kilobytes this data takes up in the SAxperience database is tiny compared to the amount of traffic which is served each minute of the day.

Shaun, are you saying that this server runs SLOW? If so, please define SLOW... I'd be interested to hear your view.

Quick example...

A number of months ago, a member emailed me to ask if their username could be changed, as the username they wanted to register had already been taken, for example 'username'.

So instead they registered 'username_'

Although the 'username' account had not been active for over a year I decided that unfortunately the 'username_' account should not be changed to 'username', thereby deleting the original member.

This sprung back to my mind, as THIS weekend the original user 'username' was active on this site... this made the whole exercise of NOT deleting the original user worthwhile... in my opinion!

Thanks for your view on potential improvements... I think I responded to this particular comment in my first response in this thread.

I feel it is important to store user accounts for a LONG time.

Deleting redundant accounts is something I have thought about for V4. But its not just as simple as deleting accounts...

If user 'BOB' didnt use his account for a year and I deleted it, then someone else registered as 'BOB' thats all very well and good.

But when you search for forum posts by 'BOB' how do you distinguish between the two users???

There is a solution to this, which I have worked out for v4... but until then, the simplest thing is to NEVER DUPLICATE usernames... and the simplest way to do this is to NEVER DELETE USERS ACCOUNTS.

SO, there is my 'real' answer to this.
