The cars themes
Well first off it was very standard with a couple subtle mods.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00232.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/71567131a5693822263l.jpg

Then I started going down the 'Track' style
Most important first mod for the track look:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/HPIM0850.jpg

Fitted them with sparco harnesses and mats to match.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/25november/DSC00359.jpg

Then I tinted my back windows myself...
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/25november/DSC00345.jpg

I then de-girlyfied the car with smoked headlights..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/27%20december%20manchester/DSC00367.jpg

I then fitted green neons.. Then got rid of them.

I carried on with my 'Track Look'
Got abit crazy with the blue, sprayed everything myself. Including doorcards, centre piece, air vents, centre console etc. I then made a MDF false floor to cover the back, trimmed in blue material.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/8th%20april/DSC00466.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00076.jpg

To keep up with the track style i made a sheep noise and sprayed my VTR alloys black. (For sale now in forsale section, cheap 100 quid ;)).
Also added saxp stickers to show my love ;)
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/8th%20april/DSC00470.jpg

Painted calipers blue:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/8th%20april/DSC00464.jpg

Now i decided to go off track with the track style. And bought a body kit..

Sanded it down, sprayed it myself, fitted it myself.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00008.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00011.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00026.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00023.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00029.jpg

I then went to see Graeme in warrington to buy his dimmer grill. Sanded it down, sprayed it, then fitted the mesh, then fitted it to the car.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00027.jpg

I then started spraying the other sideskirt.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00056.jpg

I then fitted the dimmer grill and didnt like the silver bit in the middle that was behind the grill, so i took the grill back off, painted the silver bit black, then refitted the grill.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00060.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00061.jpg

Fitted: (Starting to look alright tbh)
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00062.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00063.jpg

Now fitted the raceland induction kit and removed front bumper ready to fit my new one.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00064.jpg

Then started to check if the front bumper would fit correctly. And it did. As usual i did all the work myself and didnt pay anyone else to do it.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00066.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00067.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00068.jpg

The usual work began....

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00073.jpg
(Note where the numberplate is and how i stuck it on.. It will help you understand one of my mods i done recently, later on in the thread.)

Bumper primer'd and engine bay tidied up a little:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00078.jpg

End of the days work:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00079.jpg
(Had to take it out garage as dad was fed up of not be able to use the garage.... ****.)

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00103.jpg

Picked up some VTS Alloys
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00082.jpg

On they go... Actually.. wrong colour. They can sit in the garage for a while..

I dont like the body kit.

Went up a kurb to do a 3 point turn on the way to Liquid Car show in manchester. Turns out the bumper was lower than i though, it caught the kurb and some of the fibreglass broke, so ripped the whole thing off and went to the carshow without a front bumper.
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00473.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/DSC00469.jpg

Next day i put my standard bumper back on..(and took fog lights out.. :homme:)
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00480.jpg

I then fitted a BMC and had it coming out one of the fog lights...
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00485.jpg

Made some doorcards with speaker pods:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/bodykit/DSC00482.jpg

..But didnt like them so took them to scrap yard.

I then sprayed my cold air feed:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00494.jpg

Along with my bonnet..

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00508.jpg

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00511.jpg

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00097.jpg

Bought a showcage.. (didnt fit it straight away.... . . . )

I then decided my interior was dull. I fixed this problem by giving Andy a call from "Flock It" in St Helens.

I want all the inside of the car to be black. Here were my interior plans:

Flocked dashboard
Flocked Interior Plastics
Flocked rear doorcards
Flocked front doorcards
Black GTI Leather
Black Roof

Fitted GTI leather easily (didnt get any pictures of me putting it in though :n:)

Soon got them. I highly recommend Flock It for flocked dashboards, cant fault mine, very sound guy.

GOT F**KED OVER BY POLICE
Aparantly my sunstrip was illegal.
Apparently my west wings side skirts were illegal.

Cop pulled me. Was a complete d**k with me even though i was keeping calm and showing respect unlike most other teenagers in my area.

Anyhow, the dude must of been having a bad day. Issued me with a PG9 and said my car need re-mot'ing.

So i took sideskirts and sunstrip off the very same day. Took it to the garage for its MOT. Failed on emissions due to a small hole in exhaust, so i did a bodge job with some exhaust putty at the garage and they re-tested it. It then passed the emissions. All was looking good and i was starting to think i'd be back on the road the very same day. Unfortunately i had forgot my back pads were low. They had to fail it on the rear brake pads. So got some new ones the day after, then the day after that it got a free re-MOT and passed fine.

Back on the road FTW!

Heres how s**t the car was looking without the sideskirts: (I know some will argue it looks better, but IMO it doesn't).
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00148.jpg

Going to lie low for a couple weeks then put sideskirts back on along with a couple other things. But i wont reveal all now. The outside is my next project after i've finished making the inside as black as possible.

Woke up the other day and there were liquid all over my front alloy and on the floor next to it. I'm not usually any good with mechanics but i thought i'd just jump in and have a nosey around.

Took the alloy off..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00136-1.jpg

Grease on inside of alloy..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00135-1.jpg

As i said, i'm no mechanic, but quickly clocked on it was just the gaitor that had come loose..

after..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00143-1.jpg

Went local A1 Motorstore's and bought a repair kit..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00142-1.jpg

Filled the gaitor up with some new grease/oil shizzle. Then use a steel cable tie..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00145-1.jpg

I felt it wasn't strong enough so put a jubilee clip on also..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/progress%20thread%20new/DSC00146-1.jpg

Washed the wheel and put it back on.

Couldn't agree more with you mate.

It was abit rushed. I had ducktaped my numberplate to it and when i took it off it took a layer of paint with it. So thats only reason i sprayed it black. In the process of buying a new plain silver one now. Did want a carbon fibre one but they're silly prices lol.

I've applied for a lvl 2 body repair and spraying course at college for this september though, so hopefully i'll do something abit 'prettier' ;)

Clayton near Accrington in blackburn mate, different place ;)

You should really get into modding. Just play around with it, take pieces off and put them back on. Just to get your knowledge up then start modding. I knew nothing about cars when i first bought mine.

Lmao @ Snow plow comment.

Thanks for a decent reply mate, and i know i change my mind too often. I dont really do photoshops etc, i just get an idea in my head, then do it. If it looks crap i take it off. I really do need a good hard slap tbh, i've was thinking of selling up and buying a 1.2 1995 corsa :panic:. Mum and dad talked me out of it though lol (they didnt want one on their driveaway, stuck up gits LOL).

Tottally agree with you there mate. Love them sideskirts, everytime i look at it now it looks like its 'missing' something. Not going to start work on outside until i finished the inside though. Need to finish wiring up my front components, get sub and amp back in, and secure the front doorcards.

Thanks for decent replys :y:

Yeah, i'll go for it. Once i have the front splitter and its all level (like sideskirts not lower than front if you get me) i think it will look alright.

slam it and leave it

Dont be silly.

I dont understand this bullshit, if i wanted to do something to my car that i liked and looks good i would do it, regardless that some one on 'sax-p' has already done it. At the end of the day i had my saxo for a year and did just over 20k and travelled all over, and i didnt once spot some one 'sax-p' so what does it matter if every other vtr looks the same on this FORUM ! We dont all live in one town, if we did then yes you would have a point but i dont see the point in being 'different' on an internet community if it looks shit, lol.

Each to their own though pal.

Dont bad rep me or nuttingggg !! :afro:

Hi Liam,

Cheers for reading the whole thread, glad it interested you. And thanks for complimenting me on the effort.

I'll see how long the CV joint lasts, everyother day i keep checking it and it seems to be working fine for now :y:

Hi, firstly dont worry i only bad rep noobs. They cant get me back :boxing:

Your missing the point really, I went down this route because i do actually think it will look good in the long run. The whole subtle thing is boring me abit as its easy to do and doesn't require much effort.

For example, People going down the subtle route normally go for lowered suspension then smoked theme. They most likely pay someone to lower it, and the lights are just bolt out, bolt in.

However, i do know some people go that step further (pred + others) with the subtle theme and i respect all the effort they put into their cars. But personally i would like to go down the route i am doing. If i do anything i dont like i'll simply undo it and do something different, if i dont like that, then il take it off and do something different again. Until i have the car looking how i want it to look.

Thanks for posting :drink:

Up, down, all around, you're an indecisive bugger aren't you?! Fairplay for the amount of effort you have put into it though. I agree with you on doing mods yourself & learning techniques along the way (a bit like jumping in at the deep end!) Much more fun that way! Plus Sax-p often helps alot!

But the big question is......are you happy with it now, or do you have more plans in the pipeline?

I know what you mean mate. Cheers for the respect :y:

I have thought about doing a respray myself once i've completed my course. I like the silver though, so probably just get creative and add some more black or something :err:

It will be a while off that though :)

Hi,

Just bought some lockwood blue dials, After i fit them I've finished working on interior for now. (spent like 600+ on it upto now lol).

Am currently looking for a decent front splitter, only one i found that i like is the wings west, to go with my sideskirts. So exterior is next. Nothing major, just splitters and sideskirts. And abit of spraying ;) Bonnet needs touching up

Thanks for posting =]

TRAX - RACE TO COMPLETE EXTERIOR

Right well the week before trax i was trying to sort my saxo out so it would look alright at trax. iFAIL. Really didnt have enough time, was working on the spaxo from 7 in morning til silly o clock at night. Sometimes i wish there was more hours in the day.

Anyhow, Enough talking. I'll let you know what i been upto.

Firstly i decided to improve my back bumper. I decided a little gloss black on it in the middle would look good. I thought of this after following a corsa VXR to work.

So i removed the back bumper:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00180.jpg

Sanded it down... and added bit of filler in places to remove any scratches.

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00183.jpg

Then i added primer:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00195.jpg

Got my gorgeous gf to make me something to eat :boxing:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00197.jpg

Sanded it down and added some more primer:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00223.jpg

Sanded and added silver paint (mixed from a local bodyshop, very good match)
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00224.jpg

Started getting a bit dark so moved into greenhouse..

Masked off the part i wanted to spray black, then sprayed black over the silver (no laquer on at this point).
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00230.jpg

In the morning i realised i didnt do too bad of a job..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00236.jpg

But wasn't happy with only one coat of black so sanded it and sprayed another coat of gloss black:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00237.jpg

Laquer'd it, let it dry, then fitted to car:

Colour coding side bumpers

Did this whilst back and front bumpers were off and could fit car in garage. (As it kept friggin raining, amount of times i was led in puddles..rawr..)

Anyhow less of my bitching.

Masked the bumpers off and added news papers:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00202.jpg

Sanded them down a little.

Then added primer:

Sideskirts
Thought i might aswell whack them back on. Even though copper said they were illegal and made me take them off. Got pulled over today and the cop didn't say out about them so its all good.

FRONT BAS**RD OF A BUMPER :wall::wall::wall::wall:

You know how i wanted my car to be all done and ready for TRAX? iFAIL!

Was working silly hours in the cold/wet/rain to try to get it ready. But ended up taking ages to dry, couldnt smooth it properly as i didnt have enough time, so ended up whacking silver paint on and hoping no one would notice much.. :wall:

Anyways, this is how the story goes

Fog light air feed:
Items used:

MDF
Jigsaw
Plastic bottle
Dads Cotton T shirt (ideal for fibreglassing)
Fibreglass
Body Filler
Duck Tape
Is this starting to sound like bodge job? Yeeee haaaaayyy

Right firstly i took the plastic bottle of pop, and used jigsaw to make it into a tube..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00185.jpg

Then i started to cut up and wrap my dads cotton t-shirt around the plastic:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00186.jpg

Then i got the fibreglass out..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00187.jpg

Whacked it on inside..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00188.jpg

Cut some MDF to the shape of the fog light, attached my home made tubing and whacked some more fibreglass on..
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00189.jpg

Filler added..

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00215.jpg

Hole cut out where i didnt apply filler or fibreglass:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00216.jpg
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00220.jpg

Other side foglight smoothed over:

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd172/Paul_CGM/trax%20prep/DSC00231.jpg

The bumper it self i'm not sure on what the final design will be yet.. Anyhow i just did the usual..

Took it off..
Did the usual sanding and spraying
Added a little filler to smooth the bottom plastic bit in...

Time to cut my losses and go trax.. But in what car?

I had the choice of going in a 1.3 fiesta or the 1.6 VTR with a very ugly front bumper...

I chose the vtr, and tried to get people not to take pictures of the front LOL. (WAYNE) ;)

Decided to go with 2 friends, well 2 and half. Osama Bin-Laden decided to join us..

Set off them stopped at a service station to make sure nothings fell off..

Just read through it all matey, very interestin stuff! I'm fancyin sprayin my rear bumper bit black too, was it much work?

Paul
11th September 2008, 09:53
Cheers for reading mate.

It was quite easy. Just make sure you do it proper way and sand it all down, not just the bit you want to spray. Then spray the whole bumper silver (after primer/filler stages). Then once its dried dont put laquer on. Mask the black bit off, spray it, then give it bit of a sand with 800wetndry or something. Then do a couple more coats. Then take masking tape off and laquer the whole bumper.

Make sure you do it in a dust free area :y:

Hardest part is finding a correct shade of silver to respray. Get your colour code from inside of your door (mine was AZR artic steel) then take it to a decent place to get your paint mixed up. Dont go halfords.)

only say it cos i work in a body shop and the amount of cars thats paintwork is ruined becos of aerosole we have to turn them away as it becomes a massive job!!!
