ZS is the middle shape one, and 120 is entry level for that.

Probably aboutthe same in speed wise,
but it'll be worse on fuel.

Good car's them MG's..

Bro has had 2 ZR's and my dad has had the ZT-T V6..They handle really well but as Ryna said they have HG issues..Though all the ones we have had have been fine and have been tracked etc regularly..

Its really important you let them warm up fully before any hard driving..

Also the 1.8 engine that comes in the ZS in 120 BHP and 160 BHP have some very good development behind them..Designed to rev constantly at 7k RPM..In other words you could sit on the motorway at 7k RPM for aslong as you want and nothing will break or overheat etc..I think thats quite interesting..

My mate has the ZR160 vvc. Its not that quick tbh. Not much quicker than my vtr, so a vts would definitely kill it!!

hmm yea, i just fancy somethin bigger, more practical and different. hit it up with some black 18inch wheels n i tidy little back box. just to make it a bit more different but im kinda outta trust with french cars,

my uncle has a mg zs 180. the 2.5 v6 n hes never had issues with it

agree'd. I was going for the ZR 180 after i got rid of the saxo and really glad i didn't get it.

Went for the Golf instead and has been a great car. never had any real problems in a year and a half.

If you want a new car, I'd advise a diesel mk4 Golf(bigger, practical, and different)

can also put 20" wheels on if you really wanted lol

OMG

Can your mate not drive at all? Is he legless or something and cant push the pedals?

Look at the paper figures..Me and my bro have embarrassed allsorts in his old ZR 160..

Karl

The ZR160 is about the same as VTS from my experience..

I agree Karl..

Although the ZR 160 does have abit more pull at higher speeds which is down to power etc..

so we've got a Rover 45....and a whale tail.....

That'll do."

They aren't jsut in a tracksuit mate..Have alot of development and were helped by Gwyndaf Evans who rallied the ZR for MG..

What engine was in that one James?

If it was a 160..He or she couldnt drive..lol

I dont really think they did alot engine wise.

Old metro GTi 1.4 16v
has the same power as the ZR 1.4 16v.

The other 120 / 160 engines theyve been using in Lotus for years, had they not?

the engines weren't really touched no..but gearing and chassis were tweaked and improved an awful lot..

They are pretty shit tbh. The old K-series engine really isnt that strong imo. He's had a fair few problems with his! He blew the head gasket after a month of owning it (38k), and he also warped the head, then a few months later at santa pod it dropped a valve!

The ZR 160 isnt that quick at all tbh. My mates astra gsi is much quicker, as is my suzuki redtop. The zr takes over 7 secs to hit 60, which is about the same as a vts, is it not?

My vtr does it in about 8.5 secs, so thats why there isnt much in it!

Karl
13th August 2008, 12:46
Good thing about the K series, is the weight of it.
proper light engine,
alloy block iirc?

I've owned a VTR, VTS and now own a ZS 120+ (which is not the entry level one they do a 1.6) The ZS is quicker than the VTR (0 - 60 in 9 secs) it is bigger, a lot safer and looks lovely in saloon form with the extreme spoiler especially the MK2 with body kit (like mine) They are prone to HGF but so are other cars. I love mine to bits and although I miss the speed of my VTS I feel the ZS is a better car all round and you don't see many Mk2's around
Here's mine,

yeah they do! dont bother gettin 1.8 if yr gonna get one get a dif engine size as my mum had one of the1.8s and her head gasket went once then it went again like 7months later and it needed a new engine.... she sold it on tho and was gutted bout it as she had done so many mods to the car...everythin u can imagine includin tv dvd and playstation!

Its a common fault with every k-series engine made. Be it a 1.4, 1.6 or 1.8!

A-series ftw!;)

From Parkers,

VTR (90 bhp)

Engine Size 1587 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 9.9 s
Power Output 90 bhp
Valves 8
Torque - 100 lb-ft
Top Speed 116 mph

VTR (100 bhp)

Engine Size 1587 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 9.1 s
Power Output 100 bhp
Valves 8
Torque - 100 lb-ft
Top Speed 120 mph

ZS 120

Engine Size 1796 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 9.0 s
Power Output 115 bhp
Valves 16
Torque 160 Nm 118 lb-ft
Top Speed 122 mph

On paper it's quicker to 60, higher top speed and more torque (it has more torque than a vts which is 107 lb-ft)

The handling is also superb on them.
