Over the last month I have spent nearly £400 pounds repairing my sax and now have taken the decision that enough is enough and I will be buying a new car ASAP!!!!!
I love the way my sax drives and looks but the chuffing thing may aswell be made of paper! They just too poorly built and unreliable and i have just lost faith in it! So will hopefully be putting my money down on a new shape Mini Cooper soon! British looks GERMAN RELIABILITY!
RIP SAXO!!!!

£400..... That's not a lot.
I like tha new Mini's, but I don't know why they are called Mini's anymore..... the Saxo is smaller than them so they are hardly Mini are they!

Fair enough, but thats a bit of a generalisation...
£400 isnt a great deal to have something fixed these days...
Coopers are nice... although the interior takes a bit of getting used to smileys/smiley17.gif

400 quid is nothing, just wait until you have to replace the gearbox on the cooper on that shite chrysler engine then you will know what a repair cost is. Unless you get one with warranty.
Oh and i can back that up i know 6 people with minis: ones, coopers, coopers S and all 6 have had gearbox replacements.
But if you like it then go for it just dont expect a proper bmw german reliabilty as the engine isnt german at all

Thats a good point... Dave Pearce had his Cooper S gearbox repalced after a few months of ownership smileys/smiley5.gif

Whilst £400 pounds is obviously not a lot of money on repairs its the inconvieniance (SIC) of not having the car when u need it. Oh and thats £400 on parts because me step dad does the repairs for me.
Its just pissing me off now and I cant stand driving it just thinking "Hmmmm wonder when it'll break down next"
As for the mini has anyone got any other suggestions of cars i could go for in this price/insurance bracket ?
Cheers

the mini itself is an excellent car, well built, handles like a fucking dream and it goes ok. the engine is the only real weak spot and thats purely because bmw were lazy and pinched another manufacturers poorly developed engine.
If you get one ask if gearbox has been done adn what warranty it has remaining etc... but if you want one then get one it might never spit the box
as ppl have said £400 aint loads to pay for repairs etc, i personally dont like the mini at all, just doesnt do it for me.

again, the mini isn't something i would go for. how about a vw!?!
what kind of price range are you looking at mate?
edit:- this is my 5th saxo and i have never had any major problems with them. little things here and there like airbag light going on and off.

ok, so say you are looking at spending no more than £9k on your next car. thats taken your max. weekly payments over three years.
a lupo or polo gti are insurance group's 11. 126bhp is very quick in cars of that size. plus those as well as clio's have come down a lot in price as they are no longer made.

Polo GTI = Ins 12

wil it fit? engine bays are only small would of though the tt engine would be far to big! :S
wot you think of the 206 gti 180bhp version?
Scott
14th July 2005, 16:45
the gti 180 is cool, my missus has one.
I would buy a golf gti if it was a mk3 or mk4 they are pure horse shit if your looking for any sort of performance

Mini coopers are awesome cars, shame the convertibles look a bit camp tho, they just dont look right for some reason - geezer + convertible mini = Gaybar! smileys/smiley5.gif
