can you mesh the standard front grill on a mk2? cuz ive had a look and it seems that the bit in the middle that you mesh is the bit that bolts onto the car?/??

Nah didnt bother, there is a thread somewhere.
Basically cut around the slats (best to rip the black stuff off, then cut out, reglue to front and bond the mesh to the back.

how long do you reckon it will take and how much is the mesh? what did you do about the bonnet button thing?

mesh, about £4 from a builders merchants.
if u want to give the paint and laquer time to dry, i'd say leave it a couple of days between paint and laquer then another few days for the laquer to harden:y:

you can buy coloured mesh at halfords for £20, which comes in a decent size to make a cut out of.
to do it you need to carefully cut the slats out of the grille, and you can cut abit out of the top of the grille where the catch is so you can pop the bonnet

Just finished my grill, colour coded it to go with my posi blue forte ... looks the nuts. Sprayed the mesh black aswel and looks subtle as!
Leave the plastic attached to the main part of the grill and then simply bend the mesh around the back and cut using wire cutters. I glued it and left it to dry before trimming, then takes 5 secs to fit to the car!
