Robb
20th August 2008, 14:43
Dunno, always been a scooby man myself.

New Evo looks smart though. And the new Impreza................doesnt.

Karl
20th August 2008, 14:43
the most basic Evo is the 260.
Leagues above the most basic Turbo'd Scoob WRX 225.

The only thing Id rather have a Scoob for, is that the service intervals are longer iirc and cost less lol.

AdamW
20th August 2008, 14:45
Bord of my Civic now........

On the hunt for a tidy evo come January

Robb
20th August 2008, 14:45

hellonpluto
20th August 2008, 14:46
EVO all day long...i've read in EVO mag when these two cars went head-to-head the subaru still understeers a tad where the EVO is steady as a rock especially the EVO X

Ryan
20th August 2008, 14:46
new scooby is awful in its style imo.

Tried to drop the car out of one market and into another and lost alot of face doing so.

Karl
20th August 2008, 14:47
Would actual be legendary if Adam rocked the Forza 2 FTW Scoob.
WarrrppppTisshhhh *Beep from the car he's just pulled out on.*

Karl
20th August 2008, 14:52
If I was gonna buy a Scoob, It'd have to be a decent spec one,
the 225s are really not all that.

Leemc2008
20th August 2008, 14:52
Definately have the Impreza.. EVO is a computer on wheels, Scoob is the real drivers car!

Predator_R32
20th August 2008, 14:52
evo everytime for me, white with white or black wheels just makes sense :)

tbh more and more people are getting scoobies these days, its the saxo of this era :p

Leemc2008
20th August 2008, 14:55
I'm bias though.. having frequently driven JDM WRX STi Ver.4, 320bhp.. Dont like EVO's.. Boxer engine for me.. :P

If I was gonna buy a Scoob, It'd have to be a decent spec one,
the 225s are really not all that.

our one's a 225bhp but it wasnt very fast it was quicker than the 260bhp evo but we had it remapped to 270bhp what makes a BIG difference.

Ocego_VTR
20th August 2008, 15:26
and i have always preferred the scooby been in a 6 and an 8 but the jdm sti is well quicker.

craigy_87
20th August 2008, 15:29
evo for me aswell

as much as i dont like the new scooby there is a white one parked not far from me an i kinda like it :oops:

Mikey

Mrk1
20th August 2008, 15:33
Evo for me. Tommi Makinen Evo 6 please.

As for the new editions of both I think they've both loss the rally hertiage. Evo X is way slicker than the new scooby though.

-jon-
20th August 2008, 15:39
the new evo looks better than the new scooby, but i would have a old scoobie over a old evo.

haroldno1
20th August 2008, 15:47
topgear did this didnt they... evo better faster. but impreza was nicer to own?

flee123
20th August 2008, 15:49

Rather have my balls cut of with a blunt knife then have an EVO

Scooby is the one to have

Karl.... Dont buy a UK 225BHP model then... you buy the JDM models

The higher power EVO the more lag you get

FQ400 is a primer example

Lichfield type 25, Spec C or D or even the Rb320 runs all over any EVO in my opnion

Leeroy,

Been in a 427 bhp and the lag was silly, my mate has a 330bhp scooby leaves it for dead off the mark with hus turbo being less laggy

320bhp or the 360 can be mapped to be quicker then a 400 any day with out the massive amount of lag

Karl
20th August 2008, 16:42
Surely if you just hammer it in every gear the lag just goes un noticed?

evo, older scoobs are cool tho.

Ocego_VTR
20th August 2008, 17:27
my mates got a imported scooby 290bhp it kills uk evo 8 fq300's. although import classics are genuinly lighter and rev higher.

leeroybrown
20th August 2008, 17:55
Rev the same....only rev more if they are an sti

Ocego_VTR
20th August 2008, 17:58
thought imported WRX's rev higher than the UK ones both standard btw not re-mapped.

Jazz
20th August 2008, 18:03
Subaru Impreza better for day to day use, Evo more focussed 0n track but less forgiving on the road. Both cost a fair few bob to run...

I love the Evo range but I guess the Scoob is a better day to day compromise.. Both very nice cars. New shape Subaru doesn't look half as good as the older saloons.

The Impreza STi WR1 is simply gorgeous, really loving those at the minute. Then again Evo 8 FQ-400 does it for me too lol.
STi WR1 limited edition.

Evo 8 FQ-400
http://www.speedwheels.gr/dynamic/images/zoom/BYBMHV/viewsize/1.jpg

Hard to choose really...

Edit- on the subject of lag, yes FQ-400 is a very laggy beast, Turbo Technics do an engine-upgrade for your FQ320, 360 etc which takes it to over 400bhp with much much less lag, which makes them a lot better.

Ocego_VTR

Saw a WR1 today and it was soooo nice i really love them the EVO is really nice but for me it would be the WR1.

Yeah they look incredible, and sound it too, that 2.0 boxer with it's deep throbby rumble is intense. I hear as standard they do understeer a little when really pushed, so a WR1 with a fast-road setup would be just the ticket for me :P

Yeah, pretty much as quick as M3's and 911s on the road. 316bhp standard is pretty nice. Might possibly be looking at WR1's this time next year tbh...

Karl

Colin McRae (RIP) had a 22B as a daily driver iirc, he absolutely loved it.

Jazz
20th August 2008, 18:30
Whats a 22B?

One of the classic Imprezas. 280PS/ 276bhp officially (many actually had more), limited edition models, meant to be really fantastic to drive, but massively high maintenance. P1 model was similar but without the wider bodykit with small differences I believe...

Edit- wrong stats sorry, 350bhp at 6000 rpm, and as Leeroy said, displacement increased to 2.2. The 22B was built to commemorate Subaru's 40th anniversary as well as the 3rd consecutive manufacturer's title for Subaru in the FIA World Rally Championship, which is a testament to their motorsport success.

Mikey
20th August 2008, 18:31
a lot of p1's are imports.

not UK ones.

there the one to get ive been told lol

22B's sold for just under 40k when they were new back in 1998. Limited edition plus their rally-associations, plus the fact that both Subaru's rally drivers McRae and Nicky Gist drove them at the time meant prices were always going to stay high.

P1 was a Prodrive UK only version with 280ps/276bhp, so the 22B was more mental still lol.

Mikey
20th August 2008, 18:42
owning a 22b means so much more than an evo i think. its a car with history. and limited. witch means your prob not gunna park next to one at asda..like an evo.

20th August 2008, 18:49
Evo for me..

Depends on how you like your car to handle tho..

The impreza will understeer although there is a simple suspension adjustment you can do to improve this. The Evo's from Version 4 onwards are far more neutral verging on oversteer due to better weight distribution and AYC.

The best Evo is actually the 6 RS Sprint which does without the AYC (uses a hellical front diff instead), its stripped out, lightweight glass and panels, has a titanium turbo and has closer gearing. The versions after that are far lardier/heavier and simply not as focussed as the 5 and 6 RS Sprint. Mitsu homologated these purely for the WRC so no compromises in its design. spec and build, Mitsu are also rumoured to have made a loss on each one sold!

Imprezas are as common as muck.. unless you find a nice 22b or P1 which are the only 2 Scoobies I'd consider... even then I think the 6 RS Sprint would be my choice.

The Type R was introduced in 1997 for the MY97 model and is a 2 door coupe and has some interesting features aimed at homoligation for rallying. It is this vehicle that Prodrive used for their Group N customer cars and also the donor vehicle for the WRC in 1997, 98, 99 and 2000. The two door body is reported to be stronger and stiffer than the 4 door and there is a solid rear bulk head adding to stiffness. Differences between the Type R and the 4 door STi models are:-

2 door bodyshell
Short ratio gear box
Adjustable electromechanical centre differential
NO ABS
Intercooler water spray
Rear twin opposed piston brake caliper (other models get a single piston caliper)
Rear tinted windows
No electric aerial (Type R gets similar to UK spec. on drivers A pillar)
No in car entertainment
The gear box ratios found on the Type R are shorter than those found on the standard STi (which themselves are lower than the UK model). These gear ratios have been changed over the years and the first Type R introduced in 1997 had ratios a lot shorter than the ones found on the MY2000 model. For the MY97 4th is 106mph at the 7900rpm red line, whilst 5th is 146mph (sounds high enough but 5th in the Type R is actually shorter than 4th in the UK/export model).

The WRX RA STi is an RA with the higher output STi engine with water spray and a better interior.

Type-R's are import only though and are generally considered to stiffly sprung for UK roads... the P1 however is basically a Type-R heavily modified and built by Prodrive for british roads, with loads of extra goodies.. all the right bits, twice the car the basic Type-R is.

I used to like Evos, but both Subarus and Evos are now ubiquitous drug dealer cars; Impreza for the lesser dealers, Evos for the class A dealers. Due to that, and the amount of cheap shaggers (mostly imports) available, every fucker has one.

If I was going to buy a car in that vein, it would probably be an old S4, only set you back 5grand. Lot better looking that either of the hideously designed Jap mobiles, more luxurious, and still fucking quick to boot.
