Yea in football its not pro but like with tennis and other big sports all the pros do enter so maby it will change and become like a 2nd world cup....

I thought this was the case - might just be boxing though as the America Basketball team were out in force this year.

pros can play lol

they are good at there sport and get paid for doing it like all atheletes, just some work at b n q ;)

there was talk of a play off i think between all countries and then which ever team wins enter them... all have to be under 23 tho, with 2 or somethin over that age allowed to play

Yates

amature boxing is different to proffesional tho

all about hitting the certain areas in amature for points, proffesional boxing isnt

well your trying to knock your oponent out ideally

tryin to say differences, not gettin there, cant be arsed lol

problem (i heard a couple of weeks ago)... is something to do between the broken ties between our football leagues. And I think there is the opinion that if we have an gb Olympic team then we have to have a unified GB football league. Which the scotish, welsh and northern Irish don't want (as they're top teams are likely to lose their stature - case of the of the big fish in the small pond syndrome)

Yates
24th August 2008, 23:12
hence why i said they talked of a comp between the countries to see who represents...

Chris_F

yep the case of the leagues joining think its clearly cos of rangers and celtic,
would most defo have of say bye bye to champions league football.

Yates
24th August 2008, 23:23
its not just about that though, altho for them even without the champions league im sure it would make them alot better financially even if it ment uefa cup and not the CL, its down to uefa and fifa and i dont think they would allow it

seein as its under 23, and you can have a certain number of players over that, you have named as far as i know 7 there lol

ferdinand
giggs
scholes
ferguson
beckham
mcfadden
healy

think they are all over 23

unsure on oshea, godon and brown, would suspect brown and oshea are

scholes has retired, so thats a problem, unsure if giggs has

fergie aint going to manage them lol

It won't happen - see this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7580113.stm

The Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland football bodies have opposed any such move in case it affects their status within governing body Fifa

My team would be....
GK - Ben Foster
Df - Gareth Bale
Df - Micah Richards
Df - Rio Ferdinand
Df - Alan Hutton
Mf - Aaron Lennon
Mf - Jack Wilshere
Mf - Steven Gerrard
Mf - David Bentley
St - Theo Wolcott
St - Robbie Keane

Although most of them will be to old in 2012.

Most of the players that would play in the GB Team IF it happened ... wouldnt be big name players today.

With them having to be under 23 and it being in 4 years time.

Its wierd how we havent put a GB football team in the Olympics for over 40 years (due to worries about FIFA making us play as a GB team in Euros and World Cups) but as the Olympics is coming to London we want to find a way to push it through?!

I'd like to see it happen but not at the expense of loosing the England team (as shit as they are lol).

Does anyone know why boxers have to be amateur but footballers and tennis players dont have to be in the Olympics?

Tony

In answer to my own question I guess the style in boxing is amateur?

But its wierd how they advertise world class atheletes in all other sports. You'd think they would change the rules to allow professionals to get more exposure to the event.

Fergie is set to mange the UK football team for 2012 I wonder if he takes it but eventually if we have big names like Sir Alex Fergie surely big names will want in like the players eg David Beckham ect and then from other countries so it will be a 2nd world cup eventually

professional boxing is all without padded helmets iirc.

Also the round and points are slightly different due to white section on gloves.

and why are people named players that are over the 23year old bracket now, do they think that some how in 4 years they will be uner the age limit?

Do you really think ferguson would manage them?! lol he will be retired by then

alot of the reason it will boil down to is £££ and the promoters/agents etc...
