Well, I decided to have a change. Wanted to go old skool kool so I bought this little beast.
1972 1300 VW Beetle. Tax exempt (get in), insurance at £250 a year, and its almost 100% standard apart from a new front adjustable beam which is at the lowest setting.
Comments welcome..

It took me quite a few hours to get it that clean! Paint was faded to hell when I picked her up.
There are a few patches of rust here and there and a wing is in desperate need of getting replaced. But other than that she is mint.

Nah, it been spot on since I had it. Changed oil, plugs, leads and had it tuned and it runs perfectly!
Looks awesome.

It only came with one mirror standard, there isnt supposed to be one there! And you still have to go to post office and get tax, but its just freeeee!

Update
Not much of an update really but thought I'd keep this thread up to date with whats happening on the bug.
Got me some pressed black and silver plates as this is the last year it was legally allowed, so thought it would be rude not too!

Update-ish
Well its been a busy few weeks on the bug. Trying to get her running sweet, comfortable inside and ready on the outside for the dreaded grit which will hit the roads shortly.
All inner arches have now been cleaned down and hammerited, and I have 4 new wings which are in the process of being prepped ready for spraying.
I have fitted a carpet which I managed to get free from some guy on a vw forum! Although this carpet is just to see me through the winter and come spring I will be buying a brand new one.
Next on the list is sanding and hammeriting underneath to complete the winter grit protection, and sanding and painting the wheels. Maybe orange? Thoughts?
Anyways a few pics for you to feast your eyes upon...

Not really my liking but its cool!
The new plates suit the car down to the ground, they've made it look alot better IMO.
Also I see what you mean about the wheels, the orange round the edge and chrome centre cap would look pretty sweet! :y:

Not sure if any of you lot will be interested in this, but Huuuuuuuge progress started yesterday. As the bug is off the road for the winter, I decided it was time to remove the engine and rebuild it with all new gaskets and clean everything up. Also I have decided to replace the 1300cc pistons with 1600cc pistons and barrels ;)
I have spent about £110 so far on a full engine gasket kit, brand new pistons, barrrels and piston rings, new distributor cap (see through red ;) ), New ignition leads (Red), a larger carb, a chrome pancake air filter, and some oil and other bits.
I also refurbished and painted a standard exhaust and a pair of heater exchangers.
Yesterday we removed all wiring from the engine, disconnected the fuel line, and removed some tinware ready for painting. This took all of 15 mins!
Today I was planning to remove the engine but due to the wet weather we decided to just remove the exhaust system and throttle cable. I have also begun painting the tin ware.
All thats left now is the 4 bolts which hold the engine in. Should take approx 30mins now to drop the engine out ;)
Will update in a little while with some pics of progress so far, and I will keep this updated everyday this week.
Expected finished date is now thursday :)

New 1600cc barrels and pistons
Full engine gasket set
Refurbished 1600cc heads
Refurbished Heat exchangers
Refurbished exhaust
