just taken this picture for the premium car game... but i thought it was worth putting in here.
i did nothing fancy. just a long exposure. filter - UV filter (forgot i even had it on...)
camera - Samsung GX10 - using the 18-55 kit lens. and a tripod
Thanx go to york, for having this stupid tower, and photobucket, for making my photo look shit :y:

hmmm, looking at it, i might try again another night and actually think photographically about it.. and get a good positioning of the car and tower... instead of it being randomly placed!
can anyone give me any suggestions of where to position the car to make the picture look good?

Some possible options...
- On top of the castle
- Out of shot
- In the sky
- On the hill
I jest, I jest.
I would heartily recommend maybe positioning the car so the front end faces the camera lens, and also so that the castle is dead-on with the lens too- sort of like the old Audi RS4 advert...

I hope that makes sense. Maybe use the steps up to the tower for direct alignment?
I think it's a really nice picture to be honest, nothing wrong with a bit of night time photography. :y:

that's good man! That's an awesome spot too. is there any street lighting nearby? (background of photo)...you could try to sit the car under a street lamp to light it up a tad.
Or another thing I would have done would be to have turned your interior light on.
wicked idea though!

cheers both of you :y:
sayer, i could do it under those street lamps. but car would either get nicked or damaged from drunken idiots. same goes with camera/tripod.
where i was, i was out of the way of the road and the drunks.
interior light is an awesome idea. ill give that a go maybe tomorrow night!!

Howzabout a nice portable lamp?

Admittedly that was 500 watts, but you get the idea. Paint the light over the car.

the distance i was from the car would mean you would be able to see the light source. which would be ghey and spoil the picture :(
sayer, come to york one night. night time pics FTW! minster, that tower, York eye, me, other places. etc :A:

Now that's a point!
Tom get a fairly powerful torch then during the exposure run your torch all over the car... that should light it up :y:

If you're using a long exposure/shutter you can afford to have a light source quite a way back, so then such a thing can be used. I only had that light there because I'd just finished fitting those headlights...
All possibilities, put simply. Get a friend to bring their car along and use foglights/headlights/main beam, work out what works best with your choice of shooting.

yeah, but if you have 2. then i can see what its like to use a good camera, by using one of your sexual ones, and you can still arse about with your other one!

OK, here's a before and after (of sorts) using a friend's foglights to highlight my car.
Apologies for the admittedly shit photo quality, but I really do need a new camera...

That's obviously with zero editing. But as you can see, the lines are accentuated with the extra puddles of light, but because they're down low they're quite useful.

Using the area's natural light worked out better for us in the end though. :y:

maybe underground car park at college? thats sort of lit up. bit of atmosphere to it..
