Right im sick of my car at the moment. Here is whats up with it:

Throughout all gears i accelerate up to about 2k, and from then until 3krpm, it hessitates/misfires. For that split second or two, there is no power. When it happens, i keep my foot down waiting for it to kick in.

The car itself has a janspeed 4-2-1 manifold, with a standard vts exhaust at the moment.
Enclosed inducution kit and an unlocked ECU

Here is what me and my mechanic have done so far:
-Changed coil pack
-Changed coolant temp sensor. (plus others)
-Changed the Throttle Position Sensor
-Checked all wiring
-Checked injectors and inlet manifold for leaks.
-Changed Fuel Filter
-Changed Air and Oil Breather/Filters.
-The spark plugs are fine
-No air leaks

We have pretty much checked everything except the fuel pump, which we are doing 2moro, and hoping to get in on the diagnosis machine!

Because its a VTS conversion, with a 1997-1998 engine in a 2002 car, it confuses things abit when it comes to checking which parts are from what year etc.

Please help me solve this problem. If you are local to me, feel free to come see for yourself.

I just need answers! Rep given to all technical answers which i havnt checked yet.
Thanks :y:

timing belt is probably out.

bobbyv

could that really be a problem as mine has been doing the same since i had my cambelt and clutch changed?

LukeVTR

Ye i would of thought so.

8th September 2008, 19:51
mine does the same but only if i leave it to idel at 1000rpm the rev meter goes mental up and down as if its going to stall!! i have been told its a faulty ECU!

AlexR
8th September 2008, 19:55
you tested the injectors themselfes? and fuel pressure too?

Predator_R32
8th September 2008, 20:00
was gonna say about the injectors themselves to make sure there all producing the same amount of fuel per injector

evans1089
8th September 2008, 21:07
how would i go about testing the injectors seperatly?
and how would i go about testing the timing belt?
Cheers for replys!

you can get your injectors re ported.
unsure on the ecu.
best bet is get a ecu doctor to plug in his pc in your car, tells you your worries

I'm hoping to do that 2moro! But there are so many things that can cause it and ive spent so much money and time trying to get it sorted lol!
Takes the piss tbh! :n:

Anymore thoughts?

You said unlocked ECU but have you had it reset since this problem?

when i bought the car, he lad said it was unlocked, a sticker on the ecu itself says it has been coded to work with the alarm or something...?

All it is, I've heard by reseting the ECU on a diagnostics machine can cure the problem with misfiring as it re-maps the ECU to it's original state, clearing any fault codes! worth a try! hope this helps!

cool thanks, but if i reset the ecu, wouldnt it mess up my alarm?

No it won't effect the alarm as your not disconnecting any power and reconnecting. All it will do is use the diagnostics plug and bite into the wiring loom and through the computer they will reset it!

so if i get it on diagnosis machine, things its gonna be thursday now, should i ask them to reset the ecu?

Chris at Manicmotors did it for me, but think he is too far away from you..
Any decent mechanic should be able to do it tho mukka

didnt have time mate, to busy sorting the women out ;)
a mate of mine said its the crank sensor? he explained it and it clicked, so gonna try that 2moro?

fossie
9th September 2008, 23:29
Possibly matey, wouldnt that show on a diagnostics tho if it was faulty

evans1089

Went to Autoworld Citroen in Chesterfield today, couldn't diagnose properly as its a conversion with diagnosis parts missing. The mechanics there said it maybe the tank fuel pump...

any explanations to why this may cause misfiring? Before i go buy one for £106 lol

fossie
12th September 2008, 08:57
If the pump is knackered it wont be sending the fuel to the engine hence the misfire possibly

gazwhittle
14th September 2008, 12:19
timing belt is probably out.

if thats the case then wouldnt the valves get munched up at tdc ?

fossie
14th September 2008, 12:21
Mine was 3 teeth out and luckily mine survived, speaking to Chris at Manic Motors he said the timing needs to loads out for that vlaves to hit, think i was lucky

evans1089
14th September 2008, 12:25
it wasnt the fuel pump either, we checked that on friday. we put some see through piping around the fuel pump to check for bubbles/air gaps etc, but there was nothing, we testing the voltage when the misfire occurs, that didnt change throughout the test drive. Gonna try looking for more air leaks and possibly testing crank sensor today...

Fella, have you actually had the timing checked out??

evans1089

Fella, have you actually had the timing checked out??

No mate, don't you need a special machine for that? recommend any garages? like kwik fit etc?

sam-on
15th September 2008, 17:59
all you can do with a dianostic code reader is read codes and clear them if your car is running in limp mode then this might help providing the existing problem have been fixed if not then you run your engine again after clearing the codes the same codes will just come back although the good thing what a good dianostic machine can do tho is activate different actuators in turn with only the ignition on to see if the unit is working properly and also give you a readout from the ecu of what the sensors are telling it ie.lean or rich,map-bar, certain voltages and some resistances...
if i was you id look more towards the EVAP canister (charcole filter) in the driverside wing
if you want to know how to check you timming belt remove all covers manualy turn the engine over until all timming marks alighn normally when piston 1 is at tdc if the marks do not line up the belt will be out but i doubt that this is the cause for your problem...
if your car is either overfueling or is starved of fuel, and injectors seem fine check out the fuel pressure regulator witch on mine is vacume operaterd from the inletmanifold via a vacume hose..
hope all this helps..

evans1089
15th September 2008, 21:43
cheers sam mate, gona take it to a garage to check the timing. i dont know what you mean with covers etc

sam-on
15th September 2008, 22:50
just the plastic covers that cover the timming belt..
it is easy enough to do your self if you take it to a garage they will try and pursuade you to have a new belt and if you have a belt you may as well have a full kit else the garage wont put a warrenty on the belt and you wont be covered if they make a fuck up of it!!!
what is it that rob is short of for doing the job with you...
if i had a somewhere to work on a car mate id do it for you coz u'll get ripped off if you take it to a garage...trust me i know how they charge

evans1089
16th September 2008, 23:45
I'm not sure he realises what else it can be, otherthan timing...
just bought some super Bosch spark plugs from ebay, shud b here thursday, see if that changes anything!

Ben
16th September 2008, 23:46
Do you not need differnt leads if you get some of them performance spark plugs? (if they are the performance ones)

evans1089
16th September 2008, 23:49
wt you mean leads? HT? VTS dont av them?

After £549 spent and over 5 weeks of stress! I finally solved the mystery of my saxo!!
Here goes the story!

After going to fetch a few bits for my mates discovery i decided to nip to my mates garage to see how he's going. ( i had not been up for a while as i was skint!)

Anyway while i was there i asked him to check my gearbox mount as something was sqeaking on the left side, anyway we jacked it up, i got under the car with a lamp and just out of curiosity i looked at the Lambda Sensor! there are 4 wires coming from the sensor out of the manifold, and 3 of them looked fine, the other looked weak! anyway i took it off, unplugged it all, and got it on the bench.

The rubber coating around the copper wire inside was split, and only just holding the two pieces together; with the wire inside exposed and not connected!
So i got soldering iron out, connected it, cleaned the sensor.

I think it was because the manifold is so close to the floor it sometimes scrapes on the bumps, pulling the wires.

PROBLEMO SOLVED!
