Hey im new here :A:
Just thought i would introduce myself lol
I've recently bought a saxo vtr
its a 51 reg, dark green, 47,000 miles, all standard!
Dont really know what plans at the mo, change the standard wheels thats all!
I've got some wheels in mind, have liked them for ages!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn52/kirstyhopkins16/Wheels/CatalunyaGraphite.jpg
Just wanted to know what size fits a saxo best, dont really know how the arches will cope with what size wheels?
Let me know your comments :A:
Thanks!
And hello to everyone :A:

Hello and welcome to Sax-P.
Best size for a saxo is probably 15" with 195/45/R15 tyres. These will fit straight on without having to mod the arches and will look pretty sweet. 16" wheels with 195/40/R16 tyres will also fit straight on or 196/45/16 tyres if you don't mind a little bit of arch work.
If you are fitting alloys, I would also lower the car else it will look like an off roader.

Now that is out of the way..........
What is the best height to lower the car?
Im gonna go with 15" with 195/45/15 tyres!
Im unsure of how much to lower it tho, still unsure of saxo's lol
Will soon learn :y:
Thankyou once again :A:

40mm is best for handling but alot of people say 60mm is best for looks so if i was you i would go 50mm for the best of both worlds, looks ace aswell

Been thinking about what size wheels and lowering the car, i like cars looking low and like bigish wheels!
My last car was lowered 60mm and had 16" wheels, looked good, but too much hassle with rubbing and arch work!
Comments on here are saying 15", will they look good in the arch and not too small if i lower 50mm? and will that cause any problems ?
Thank you :A:

should look alright in my opinion, one of my friends has a saxo and she lowered hers 30mm on 16" the ride was back breaking lol. seriously it was like been dragged down the road you could feel every bump. but yeah i think it'll look good with the 50mm drop and i like the wheels.
welcome btw

I had magnex full system on my old car, dunno what for saxo tho, any ideas?

Any accessory shop will be able to supply springs. If you are going 50mm I'd suggest shortened dampers as well to improve ride quality as well. Apex and Pi are quite cheap, Spax/Koni etc are a little more.
Exhausts - Millions to chose from tbh. Magnex and Piper are popular on here. Just look at peoples picture threads and see if you spot any you like :y:

Will i have to do arch work if i lower 50mm on 15" then?
Gonna search around for lowering springs, will it be better to get lowering kit, or just springs ?
Thanks you all your help :A:
Gonna search around for magnex system too, anybody have any help with that ?
Will get pictures of my car when we have decent weather :A:

Would be better to get a lowering kit yeah, but the price difference is bigger, and theres the torsion bar to do which might need doing at a garage. = £££

Will go with lowering kit then :y:
What sort of region will the price be for a decent lowring kit to 50mm.
Same also for torsion bar, how much ? any ideas ?
:A:
Andy_K

Kits are from around £180 upwards. Torsion bar is usually around £50 to be adjusted i think
kirstyhopkins16
11th September 2008, 18:06
Ahh thats fine, what lowering kit is best, any ideas?
Someone said about shortened dampers too ??
Yeh will go into local garage to sort out torsion bar!
So will it be exactly 50mm kit and torsion bar, or 45mm ??

you can get springs on ebay for like 50 quid then the back lowering is about 100.00 quid, call around as some places do it all parts and fitting front n back cheaper.
my mate sambo cost 150 or 160, couple hour drive tho.

Pi kits or apex are supposedly quite good for the money. They include springs and dampers in a matched pair. Height depends which ones you go for - either 45mm or 50mm. Torsion bar can be set to whateevr you want pretty much. I'd go for 55 or 60mm on the rear to make the car sit level.

Been reading through some lowering guides and just wanted to ask people who have experience with lowering their cars........
If i lower by 50mm will it cause any damage to the car and i will have 15" wheels, so how much arch work will be needed?
Appreciate your advice :D

No damage at all if you lower it 50mm, shouldnt need any arch work either, and no, your wheels wont look to small, heres mine (very low) on 15"'s

wow:fcuk:!! lol
That is low!
My last car was lowered 60mm that was bouncy enough lol
Have you got coilovers then?
Plans so far............
15" Tsw catalunya with 195/45/15 tyres
Full exhaust system - not sure what one yet, was looking at magnex cat/back system
4-2-1 manifold
enclosed induction kit - unsure on that one too
Spax -50mm kit
Was reading a thread earlier and it had mods that would make a vtr keep up with a vts............cant find the thread now.........is this true, what mods? Sorry if this has been asked a million times, have tried searching! Only read it this afternoon lol
Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated :D

Best mods to get a vtr up to vts standard, are as youve said, basically,
Enclosed induction
4-2-1 manifold
de-cat + new exhaust etc (magnex are really good)
cams
remap.
yeah my car is very bouncy, get used to it after a while, i might raise it up a little (been saying it for ages) lol. but i love it looowwww and so does everyone else. If i did raise it, it would be to -50mm at the front and -60mm at the back, just for that bit of extra comfort lol. As there is none at the moment.
