Does anyone on here give blood??
I went today for the second time, i failed though.
They got the test bag out of me, but then when it came to filling the main bag, i just wouldnt bleed, even though they had a huge needle in my vein.
A second nurse came over to try and encourage it to bleed, she was wrigling the needle round like mad, i could feel my vein moving it was odd.
Now i have a huge bruise and i look like a junkie =[
and i didnt even get the natural high you get when youve donated.

Its not that bad tbh, im the biggest puff out.
Its uncomfortable, but they keep the bag of blood out of your sight.
My only mistake really was looking at the needle once it was in, i swear it was the size of a straw!!

They advise cold drinks are better than tea, because they hydrate you quicker.
I decided to go because id expect there to be blood availible should i ever need it, so i should give it for other people =]

some of the questions they ask you are quite funny.
- Have you ever accepted drugs or money as payment for sex?
- Have you ever slept with anyone who has?
- Have you been in sexual contact with a man that has had anal or oral sex with another man?
Some examples for you.

not allowed a hot drink the first time.can make you flush givin you a light head.prone to fainting.2nd time tea or coffee and biscuits.some people are naturally bad/slow bleeders.
needles arnt really that big and doctors have done it a million times rarely have to hunt for a vein.compared to your nurse at the std clinic that can leave you like a pin cushion !
ive been givin 17 years now, they allways found vein first time and never been left with a bruise.worst part is ripping the plaster off afterwards !
ive just put myself on the bone marrow register too the test can be done same time as givin your donation.
only 7% of the population donate providing for 100% of the population.
a bit selfish not to i think, for those that can but choose not to donate.
blood only lasts 5 days.maybe you should take a moment to think about if/when you or your family or loved ones may be in need of some.
that has to be my longest post to date.rant over !

It was really strange, the first time i gave was in May, and the blood came out fine.
Today, my body just wasnt letting it out! They were twisting the needle around which is why i bruised so badly. I didnt bruise last time at all.
I was actually really disappointed that they had to give up, because they said the needle was in properly and it was a good vein, they just couldnt understand it.
Its annoyig because i still have to wait 16 weeks until i can give again, even though i didnt give the full amount!
Ive wanted to give since i was 18, but i only ever found ut about when the sessions were in the area after they had been.
Ill try again though when i can =]
Im still undecided about weather or not to get on the organ donor list and bone marrow.
I know i should, because id expect it to be there should i, or anyone i know, need it =]

My answer to the second one would be, if i knew they had i wouldnt have slept with them... lol
And as for the 3rd one, if your a woman, itd probably be the same answer i guess?

Blood can actually be used after 7 days, having a bone marrow done is so fooking painful and i'm not talking about the blood test one either.
I sadly can't give blood,as i've had too many blood, platelets and a stem cell transplant too.But ppl who give blood should be really proud of themselfs.
