Basically if you were pissing around the event horizon of a massive black hole (say the size of planet) then decided to jump in, you'd just fall for a while and feel a slight pulling sensation then feel a bit of crunch as you instantly die. The level of gravity pull is relatively the same along your entire body as you're pulled so it's not too bad... relatively.

However a small black hole (say the size of an apple) will do something known as 'spaghettification' (swear on my life), because it's so small relative to the object it's sucking up the difference in gravity along your body is much more pronounced... so instead of the pulling sensation, you get a nice ripping sensation as you're literally pulled apart, 'spaghettified' if you like... well before you get crunched.
