at 17 your going to get raped on insurance
dont get a vtr if you want to have money imo
no offence, but most 17 year olds with a vtr are just another crash waiting to happen, especially if like you, your ambition with the car is power
also, dont get a car now lol, your too young, got over a year before your 17
Ashleyp

looked at those links quickly, and would advise when looking for a car
1.1 - good starter car, cheap and easy to run
1.4 furio / westcoast - more expensive to run than a 1.1, but a smaller engine with the looks of the vts, which means cheaper insurance etc
1.6 vtr - very expensive to run as a 17 year old
1.6 vts - keep dreaming :P lol

so, which one is the cheap and good one ?
Saxo_Scott
12th September 2008, 19:44
if you have the cash to splash then go for a vtr
if not then either go for the 1.1 or the furio
furio has the looks of the vtr/vts without the sting on the insurance
Ashleyp
12th September 2008, 19:51
honestly theres a lot of people on here that get a vtr as a 1st car, and because "driving fast iz well kool" they end up crashing
if you want something with looks of a vt* and cheap insurance, the furio / westcoast are the best
unless you enjoy getting arse raped by insurance :P lol

if you do get insured, expet 4k or more lol

first car was a fiat cinquecento, standard 900cc and that was £900 for the first year, i know what its like you want a fast car as your first but its too expensive and you'll most likely to get a few scraps and bumps, better to do it in a crappy car than a nice car and give it a few years

ive got a furio and it has looks of the vtr but it aint very quick but if you want it for looks then the furio is beta on insurance,
i get raped on car insurance as it is on furio and im 20 so if can find good insurance for vtr then go for it

If you parents drive and they have no yrs no claim and u go on their insurance it wil be alot cheaper. But its better rlly to build on your own.Im goin with my mum as an additional driver with a few yrs no claim and it came down loads,i got a quote sumithing like £500 with more than. And im 18 btw.Thats for a VTR.Only thing is the acces its alot if you crash it something like £550 lol.

i found another website (moneysupermarket.com) and they gave me the cheapest thing, with 550 deposit, and 230 pounds a month...
Andy_VT
13th September 2008, 08:02
For the furio (http://pistonheads.com/sales/597253.htm) was 2.7k with 220 a month for 10 months
And for the VTR (http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/CITROEN+SAXO/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-13-147-191-240-4294966781-4294967130/advert.action?R=200836318271061&distance=82&postcode=ss08ab&channel=CARS&make=CITROEN&model=SAXO&min_pr=&max_pr=2000&max_mileage= ) is is 3k with 250 for 10 months

Hey Mate
Welcome to Sax-p
comparison website are never good!
go to the insurance company your self, it will be a lot cheaper!
Get a little 1.1 for a bit then upgrade to something bigger when u get bored!
at lest then you got some experience behind you in a small engine car!
Andy_VT
13th September 2008, 09:50
good idea, but, if i buy a car, im gonna stay with that car for a year or two... maybe more. i was gonna work on summer 2009, get some money for a car, then ill ask my parent to help me with the insurance. Im not saying that not a good idea, but i don't have the money i need to buy a car, then change it with another one...
sax13
13th September 2008, 09:59
u have got quite a while to think about it tho, jus u dont wanna crash a nice car
i started with a 1.1 kept it for bout 3 months then got my vtr
was under mums insurance and my quote was 500 quid and im only 18
is better to start at the bottom tho cos 230 quid a month is alot . i had to change all my insurance cos of the modiifications (was gettin earache from my mum bout it) now it costs me 173 quid a month :( and that is lots of money
Andy_VT
13th September 2008, 10:14
what company do you know who does cheap insurance ?
sax13
13th September 2008, 10:17
erm if its completey standard not lower absolutly nuffin then go for co-op there good but dont do wat i did mod it then dont tell em cos u gotta pay out for everythin if u crash cos its not insured they dont do modified insurance tho but im with adrain flux now so try those 1st jus to get an idea

Add your parents to the policy as named drivers!
store it in a garage
Cat 1 or 2 alarm
tracker
sax13
13th September 2008, 10:25
i would have to say dont lower it just yet ! thats normally a killer well was for me . try adrian flux and state the alloys , tints the exhaust take off the rear lights try sum others but lexus 1's and that should be it i think xxx
sax13
13th September 2008, 10:26
it has and alarm already fitted and mine works fine so that shouldnt be a problem really
Steady_Eddy
13th September 2008, 10:27
also you can use moped No Claims Bonus with certain company's so think about getting insured for about £350 a year on a moped and it will help a lot in the future!
i have already got 2 years no claims and i only just turnt 18 lol lowers my insurance by a good £600
sax13
13th September 2008, 10:27
also i wouldnt add ur parents to it cos if u crash it their no claims is gone and dont think they would be too happy about it x
Ashleyp
13th September 2008, 10:31
also i wouldnt add ur parents to it cos if u crash it their no claims is gone and dont think they would be too happy about it x
their only named drivers
they would lose nothing
seriously airways92, dont even think about your car now.. your 15 got agessss, and your views will change so much in the next year
and youll realise whats a good buy and whats not, no point worrying about it now, just save up as much cash as possible and when your 17, then decide on what car to get
Steady_Eddy
13th September 2008, 10:37
also i wouldnt add ur parents to it cos if u crash it their no claims is gone and dont think they would be too happy about it x
they are just named drivers! so it doesn't affect them if you crash, its still your policy with them on it.
just add them on as named drivers without using there no claims bonus and it will still lower it
try it with elephant.co.uk

13th September 2008, 10:44
Tbh i would go for the furio, nice little car, not to slow but not to fast, cheap little run around, and its the best on the links you have put up as all have them have wayyyy to much miles on,
And one says "limited Edition" haha yea right
sax13
13th September 2008, 11:24
jus readin back thru this i obv cant read properly lol i thort u sed that put it on ur parents and u be a named driver ooops sorry people x
Andy_VT
13th September 2008, 11:43
anyways, before i buy a car, im gonna test drive it first, if the driver doesn't let me, im not gonna buy it. ill try to get it lowered on the price too :D
Andy_VT
13th September 2008, 11:46

13th September 2008, 16:01
Start small and work up IMO. I started in a 1.0 metro and paid over £500 for that! As I accrued no claims bonuses I improved on my car. Even now though at twenty.....:err: eh hem...something....with max no claims I'm paying >£700 insurance on my VTS....worth it though!! Considered a pass plus/advanced driving course. Some insurers give you discount if you do that....? ;)

Master_VTR
13th September 2008, 16:33
erm well you dad has to put you on his insurance as a named driver ad if he is with direct line that even better cos they are the only company that will let you build up your no claims bonus whilst being a named driver on someone else insurance
Master_VTR

13th September 2008, 17:33

Trust me as a 1st car get a cheap run around small engine if you crash it(you will) not to much lost.Don`t make the mistake I made taking out a 5k loan struggling to pay it back & having a major smash in my 1st year(took a bend too fast & ploughed straight into a drystone wall)yes it hurt:fcuk::wall::wall:
