Photography Courses

Would any of you recommend someone like myself to go to some photography courses to gain more knowledge and experience on using DSLRs and getting better pics etc.... there are still loads of things on my camera which I don't know what they do, plus the other things I learn at one point, just seem to go completely out of my head when I really need to remember it.

Was thinking of maybe looking for an evening or weekend class, depending on how much it is and what the course itinerary is.

classes can be very expensive imo, better off just going on a forum reading and finding a photographer/s work you like and asking questions.

Most on decent places all want to help out as its a hobby for many.

books also are a great resource

I have been looking into this one, I was recommened it by one of our old clients at Morrisons before I left and I keep receiving e-mails saying I can have discount etc but I just haven't got the time at the minute.

There is a few more options though.

- Have you thought about looking say through Yell or Photography forums, maybe approaching a local photographer? They maybe more expensive, but the one to one tuition is better sometimes.

chris if you really want to get into it then i would recommend doing a national diploma course, this can often be done in the evenings. the course is pretty much all practical based which is far more fun that the BA course im doing now. they will teach you everything, on mine they started us from scratch. over the course you will develop from the basic camera settings right up to being able to set up a professional shoot using studio lighting. depending on the course you will also learn a bit about film cameras, developing film and printing (as this helps to explain what the digital equivalent are) also you may well do some photoshop and basic web design work

Really wanted a one on one type thing for someone to show me what my camera can do etc, rather than reading it off the net or books, then forgetting it all when I come to use the camera.

Yeah I would prefer the more practical course and learning from the very bottom up would be just what I need I think.

Next thing will be to get Photoshop to finally load on to my laptop after multiple failed attempts from many different CD's from mates etc.

but that's as far as it goes... I find the best learning resource is just chatting to other photographers, when they started talking in some weird photography language I just explained that I'm a noob and I need it broken down on to a more simplied level.

Would you mind perhaps meeting up before december and running through everything with me, whats you expect of me etc what i need to bring, what i need to wear.

haha no problem at all mate... actually thinking about it, Chris... you aren't far away. I'm no pro but I can teach you all I know if you fancy a little voyage to south london. 90% certain I'm moving back to guildford now :cool:

This is all the sort of things I need to learn about, so hopefully once I start looking through that I might learn something.

Where did you pick up this magazine? Would really like to start collecting and reading photography magazines, so i can pick up tips, learn more, and get to see lots of pictures. As well as see whats is coming out in the future etc etc.

I think my photography group idea sounds great! lol
