About 5 months ago I had a problem with my 51 plate VTR cutting out at random intervals. Eventually it packed up completely and I couldn't get it started. The garage replaced the coil pack, crank sensor and eventually the fuel pump. They also drained the fuel tank and found what they described as a load of "gunk". They cleaned it out and it ran happily until about 2 weeks ago.
I took it back to the same garage and they couldn't find anything wrong except a load of random faults on the ECU and about a pint and a half of water in the fuel tank. They again drained the tank, reset the codes and so far so good. However, they couldn't find anywhere where that amount of water could be getting in. There was a small hole in one of the breather pipes but not big enough to let in that much water.
Has anyone come across this before? Could it be the fuel filler cap - I've checked the seals and they seem fine.
Thanks
Steve
