I'm thinking about looking for a job in a call centre. I'm working full time at the moment, but qhave been thinking about a change, and was wondering what the pay was like, and general working conditions and opinions on the work?
If I decide to do it, there's a good chance it'll be in the banking sector, unless anyone can tell me which is the best for pay etc.

Hard to say everywheres different i used to work for virgin net sales and it was just one big laugh. Then the contact got moved so i was transfered to billing and i hated it.
Realy depends on the managment and the people you're working with more than the job itself

I work for insurance company back office... They are an outsourcing company... have little call centre staff as it is... but have taken on a new company recently... theyre terrible! they have no designated call staff. So they are about 2 months behind on work and now all of the other teams which work for a completely different book of business are forced to jump on the phones take abuse and take messages!!! we cant even use their system as its completely different.
Call centre work is great if you have good customers... but i would never ever recommend it. When i got my job... i was told i was never going in the call centre... haha.

The people I work with now are the most dull, boring, grumpy fookers ever. Apart from the owner's daughter - she's not even fit, but at least she's a bit of a laugh...
Just fancy a job with more life tbh.

Ha sounds like the job i had before i worked in the call center.
It was mostly people under 25 in the call center i worked in and like i say was a laugh most the time and theres plenty of fit lasses. Think it depends on the type of person you are aswel wouldnt recommend it if you get wound up easily as you can get some right cu*ts on the phone if you're laid back and work for a decent company though its good gap filler between jobs.

Work for EDF energy in a call centre, could be worse, could be better. Money is good for the work i do - which isnt a lot.
Everyone is different, only way you will find out if you like it is to try it

Its all down to the person. We have a call centre at my work. Most people hate there jobs. But im guessing because they only get a Barry basic wage.
When i first got into my line of work i was doing a call centre style job. Im the type of person that takes things seriously. If i got a mardy cunt who was rude to me on the phone, wasnt willing to help yet expected the earth at there feet i lost my temper. On the other hand you meet some great people. Maybe not in a large environment, like say a cable provider company but a company where you speak to the same people a few times a week. You get to make friends, remember what they say and ask them how it went (weekends and holidays) that can be really nice. Especially when they remember what you told them and ask how your 'things' were.
Most call centre jobs have a high turn over, that makes it good for career progression, Joe's there to make coin over the summer, after that he fucks off.
If your init for the long run you can make a very good career out of it.
Its all down to how much you put it to how much you will get out, also the type of work it actually involves. If its selling time shares or supporting a type of service. If you generally have an interest in it or find it remotely interesting you could enjoy the role

I have worked in a call centre for 5.5 years. Worked in a family run business before that and that was alright but became really boring and not many job prospects. Work for a big company now and would honestly say that its cool. Has its ups and downs like all jobs one day you hate the next its alright again. More money better prospects. Suppose its no always the call centre type job more the company you work for.
Do however be prepared to be labelled as one of those chickens that gets 2 pound coins thrown around you ha ha :y:
