Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way of removing the clock surround without taking off the steering wheel?

Thanx

This method has been described before, what you do is seperate the upper & lower steering wheel shrouds (T20 torx bit)once off theres 3 bolts holding the steering column in place undo these the column should drop enough to allow access to the cluster etc.

repped because i have had the clocks out this afternoon to change the LED's and have not set the petrol needle correctly and therefore need to remove them.

Right the lower part of the steering column closest to you are 2 metal clips 1 each side of the column unclip these then look round the left hand side you`ll see 2 13mm bolts & theres 1 13mm on the right hand side undo these this will give you enough movement in the column to get the cluster out. When locating the bolts on re-assembly make sure the holes in the plate line up exactly(theres holes above the plate too)otherwise the bolts will cross thread & strip.

sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt

tbh i find it easer to get coloumn surrounds off, wheel and airbag off

all you have to do then is undo the airbag ring sensor screws, undo the indicator stalk screws, pull stic a bit to get the sensor out then its just the plastic bit unscrewed that holds the stalks and everything on

very easy tbh

i managed to get my clocks out yesterday without even having to touch the steering wheel at all - that includes not dropping it down!

I removed the upper and lower surrounds from around the column, undid the gauge surround and fiddled it through the top of the wheel and then the clocks easily came through the top of the wheel as well. Time taken for me to get the clocks out was under 10 mins - did what i needed to do and the clocks were back in and going in approx 10 mins as well :)
