Hi everyone. Just thought I'd say hullo at such an ungodly hour. Well I dont actually own a saxo yet. But it's a possible route for my next car (currently driving a 2003 ibiza 1.2) I'm going to look at a 42k 2002 VTS tommorrow priced at £2750 is this a decent price?

To be honest I'm a bit dubious about joining the saxo fray. No offence intended to any of you owners. It's just that the saxo comes hand in hand with the boy racer/McDonalds territory which I definitely dont fall into. (after all I'm a Chinese guy into d'n'b, metal and his cars not a spotty chav into his mainstream dance and their tracksuit slappers) But after thinking about it for a while, there's gotta be a reason these cars sold so well. I've heard nothing but good things about them driving experience wise such as handles like a go kart and goes like poo off a stick so I thought I'd give it a chance at least. I've heard all the rumours of french build quality etc etc but my ibiza hasn't exactly had the best reliability record so hey why not.

What tips do you guys have when viewing such a car and what are your general experiences in owning a saxo? A lot of unwanted attention from the police? umpteen breakdowns? loadsa 'streetracers' tailgating you?

I'm pretty open minded in general and quite looking forward to trying a saxo out, I just hope it's as good as I've been led to believe, after all 2 of my housemates have them and although they're slightly scruffy 1.1s they seem to have a lot more fun in theirs than I do pootling along in my german/spanish mongerel underpowered tank.

For now farewell. I'm looking forward to some interesting replies.

Kind Regards,

Rich

Welcome along.

Saxo's/106's, fortunately, seem to be straying away from the 'boyracer/chav' image recently.
They're underrated cars IMO, really are quicker than most expect, and they do handle well, yes.

Breakdowns? Its French, get recovery, and start naming your tools, you'll be seeing more of them than you'll expect.
As for attention from the police (ok, mines a 106, but they're almost the same), I've only been pulled over once, in over a year and a half, and that was 'cause a passenger wasn't wearing their belt, however I have heard of people getting pulled over regularly, all in the luck of the draw I suppose.

All in all, you're in for a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, but you'll love it. :)
