Right..Here goes...:n:
...My car was picked up today by The man from the Garage I was getting it tested at and he took the keys and I went to work...
Now...Bearing In mind the previous owner sold it after having it from June 'til September for £800 (98 R Reg VTR) I thought maybe it would fail the MoT by the Emissions or something and that would be that..
However..I was in for a shock..
: Axel Beam has excessive vertical movement between stub axle, steering rack gaiter missing,Offside rear inner arch corroded,Nearside same<,Offside suspension component is corroded,Rear brakes less than 1.5 mm thick,Parking brake recording no effort,Front brakes juderring severley,Front exhaust has a major leak of gases,Rear silencer has detiorated,Emissions (x3) and The handbrake was below requirements..5 *Dangerous* marks aint good...The guy who tested it has been an MoT Tester for 15 years and says its the worst car he's ever seen "Looks nice on the outside but bad on the in"...
COST OF REPAIR...£850-1300....GUTTED

can you not fix much of that yourself? if not just get another vtr and then you got loads of parts and just strip the broken and sell bit that you dont need

you could probably sort all the brakes out yourself and get a whole new exhaust system, the rest im not too sure about (im sure by corroded they mean rusted enough to put your hand through?), the gaiters a simple (well ok not simple but you get the idea) job. as for the suspension component, you'd probably be best of going the scrappy and replacing whatever it is!

as for the excessive play in the axle... i have no idea. but its not yet destined to the scrappy, you'll just have to get your hands dirty!

Yeah..Badly corroded..To top it off it says the Parking brake effiecency is 11% and the comment at the bottom says "Warning:In my opinion the car is dangerous to drive because of the defects marked as such"
...Im not even thinking of not breaking it because I cant risk my life in that pile of shit and have also not got the Mechanical expertise to fix it D.I.Y. Style lol...ANYONE SELLING A VTR?

the last is a typical MOT disclaimer ;)

as for the efficiency, well thats why it gets adjusted, and you do need new shoes on the bugger!

u can fix arches that have corroded with fibre glass, oyu could probably fix it, but would take a long time and would be quite hard without mechanical expertise

Honestly people cheers for advice its extremely helpful but that car is not worth the dosh nor the effort and I owe it to myself to find a better car!

but you've already wasted money buying the car. unless you can guarantee what you paid for it from breaking it its probably easier to fix :)

then again, i'm always in the mindset that unless something major is beyond economic repair (eg the engine, or the floorpans rusted through) then its worth fixing!
