Whats the deal with these
My brother reckons he went through them at 100mph on the way back from Liverpool the other night
Im assuming he will be facing a lengthy ban............ He never had a rear numberplate on so would they of got his car an do they take a pic of the front.
Any info would be good :-)

The cameras face you as you enter the speed zone, Im guessing from that they will take an image from the front lol

What was the speed limit through the cameras?
If you are meaning on the motorway, through road works then its the front plates.

lol he is gutted then. He thinks someone nicked his rear plate or it fell off. Poor guy haha
Not sure Luke. I dont think it was at roadworks. He said there was a new stretch of road an everyone slow'd down so he took the oppurtunity to pass them all an realised a sign/camera or something saying average speed zone blablabla
I think it was in a 70mph aswell

If your on about the cameras that tes your average speed between 2 points, the 1 it takes the front, secondly he must of seen the first camera at 100 slowed down and then be ok for the second camera? if so he wont be clocked at 100 will be less but still a nice ban or fine if he went 100 through both then sorry bud but more mug him!

Yea i think he noticed the last one as he put on the anchors BUT his speedo reads out 6mph at 40 due to his rims so would that of put him below 100 then an it wont be a ban
As i got caught at 95mph 4 year ago an just got 6 points an a fine
markymark1987
30th September 2008, 08:02
it takes an average speed between two if he went 100 fru the 1st cam and 70 fru the 2nd cam his average speed is 85 which you want get ban for
Connor_scotland
30th September 2008, 08:04
yea im pretty sure its a ban for 96mph an up in a 70 i could be wrong tho
I think he will be fine he has a clean license..... for the now

They face your car as soon as you hit the zone they calculate your average speed everytime you go through a camera,
Once you leave the zone they would have worked out your average speed and if it exceeds that of the limit,
Tickets or fail i mean ban

i thought it would be something like that
Just been hitting google an i dont think he will get a ban. If he does then FAIL

yea seems that mate.
The new speeding laws ect came out the other day as he was doing some fancy driving course with his work where they sit a traffic cop next to you an make you do heaps of manouveres ect an the guy was telling him about the new laws for speeding how 98mph in a 70mph can get you £800 an 6 points. Im pretty sure thats what he said.
But i cant find it anywhere online

You sure it was a 70 zone? They dont usually just have em randomly on M'ways, they're usually through roadworks (ie. M1) and they're 50 mph, with signs.
Rumour has it that you can use 1 lane, then switch lanes and be missed, as the camera can only cover one lane (although ive heard since that that's been changed and that they can cover 2 lanes now), and they take a picture of the front of the car, so they can get the driver too.
First camera takes photo, when you get to the radar zone for the second one, it works out the time, and your average speed, then if its over the limit, takes a photo, and you're bummed.

ye i heard that about the switching lanes. He is sure it was a 70mph. I have only ever seen them at roadworks.
Its just a waiting game then.

if the limit was 50 mph then he was to average a speed of 50 mph throughout the cameras so he could have passed the first one at 100mph and not got done for it as long as he went through the others at a speed which would have meant his average speed was 50mph. *insert adsayer's maths*

so does that mean he can pull over on the hard shoulder for a minute and get away with it?

I dont know anyone that has been caught by an average speed camera.
I also heard that changing lanes disuptes its calculations or some bollocks.

30th September 2008, 11:21
They only take pictures of the front of cars, thats why u never see a motorbike go slow through them, no front plates..

hold on a tick, so you wont get a hard shoulder where theres average speed cameras??
acemastr
30th September 2008, 16:14
No.... it TIMES how long it takes you to go through one to the other.. not the speed in which you go through, you can go through one at 120mph as long as you take the exact amount of time it takes someone who was going 70mph all the way along, say it's 60mph limit... and the cameras are exactly 1mile apart, it will take 60seconds for you to get from one to the other, if you go through in 50seconds you're going faster than 60mph.

Dad got stopped at 98MPH afew years back, and he got 3 points I think, maybe 6.
But the thing with the lanes popped up then aswell. Ever since when he's driving on the motorway he'll be going 90-95, does afew 100m in the inside lane, switches to the middle for alittle, back and too all the time and he hasn't had anything since.

yeh my mate did doing 80sumthing in a 60.
Nottingham is packed with them, and it was the first place to have these average speed cameras.
Around me ALL the 1 roads have them within a 1minute drive. Rumour round here was that they dont work, or have them switched off. But my mate got done so proves the roumer wrong!
You can still dodge them though, one of the roads i use into nottingham has them but i join the road after one of the cameras, so i can go a wee bit mroe ;) and not get cought, just slow down for the last one at the roudnabout!

changes lanes does work because ive read it on a news website and avoided a ticket by doing it without realising!, theres usually nowhere to stop in the places they put them tho so stoppin on hard shoulder wont work in most cases

THE ANSWER
Pairs of cameras spot your number plate, start a timer, and then spot your number plate again leaving a zone
But each pair only covers one lane
SOURCE: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7048645.stm
Problem is this :
But Mr Davey says this would be difficult to pull off, as each section covered has a number of cameras and drivers would not be able to see which one was paired with which.
You might be picked up by entry camera A, speed down to camera B and change lane only to find that that was also an entry camera and that either exit cameras C or D would get you further down the road.
Well so erm, lane changings a myth but only reported from the people who make them:

if the plate fell off they will prob have other cameras which monitor the traffic or something to get the reg and fine ya for that!

there a waste of time (yours and mine) they're wank. another excuse to slow traffic down.
and another excuse for the government to rob you blind if they catch you.
pointless and a pain in the arse. :(

On motorways thats the idea, they only have em through roadworks, for the workmen's safety. Through towns they're designed to keep you to the speed limit, so yeah, they do slow traffic down.

or they think youve turned off the road, between the cameras like a few thousand do on each junction...
