Its not the same, but my mate fooked his achilles in playing footie, he heard it basically snap, urgh.

He was basically bend/chair bound for weeks, on lots of pain killers and just slept through it.

Hope you get better soon mate

Snapped my wrist 8 weeks ago... nothing you can do except rest mate, and then stretch and manouver it as much as possible when it feels strong enough. Its still stiff :n:

I very nearly underwent this (and possibly should have).

The ligament actually fractured my bone(nealy pulling a chunk off of the top of the tibia/whatever bone it is) and thus didn't tear itself. Not sure if that's lucky or not... but yeah. 10 weeks on crutches including 6 weeks in a full leg cast.

Just remember to go with the physio routine, really does help!

It'll prob be really sore for a few days until swelling settles. Carry on with painkillers and as somebody already said, physio. :y:
I twisted my knee years ago, had co-codamol which worked pretty well. Decided to go against advice and added booze.....not done that since, lol! :barf:
E-hug! At least you got sax-p to keep you company.

hey, anyone else on here had an ACL ligament reconstruction?

Chris
22nd October 2008, 12:11
I had ACL rebuild in May this year... snapped that one and one of my Medial Ligaments too... Got titanium screws and brackets in the knee bones for life now.

How come you're out of the hospital already??

Did you go private??

I was in for 3 days/2 nights... own room, TV, On-suite bathroom, nurse at the touch of a button with more drugs.

As for getting rid of the pain, you don't really, it will go slowly, but in the meantime you'll just have to stick with the painkillers!!

When I came out of the hosp all I had was 500g Paracetamols (2 tablets 4 times a day), plus some anti-inflamatry tablets.

Good luck with the recovery..... I'm still having pains and stuff now!!!

Chris :)

Nah i went through the nhs, had it done 3 weeks ago, swelling had started going down but had stitches out wed and its swollen up agen, and gone more painfull after i thought it was starting to feel better, i got the symptoms i had when i first did the injury, swollen quad above the knee and swollen calf below the knee and i didnt have this till 2 weeks after the op, its got me worried, what you think? had to see what someone thought of this, i have slipped on the lino fllor twice and had some slight pain but no intense pain so i dont think i've damaged the new ligament, well i hope not

The new ligament is stronger than you think, so I doubt you'll have damaged it. I slipped in the bath and thought I'd done something, but it was fine the next day.

Yeah mine swelled up after the stitches were cut, but that will go quite soon and the bruising is a slow healer aswell.

Rest it, but not too much...... exercise it, but not too much!!!

Are you still wearing the TED socks?? They help loads with the swelling.

Chris :)

Think my mates just had this, he did his knee cruciate ligaments playing football, surgeon said his knee was pieces.

He went private, and had all that stuff you said Chris, we went and saw him, he had his xbox set up, ipod speakers, the lot, nurses wernt too bad either...

He wasnt in that much pain, couldnt bend his leg for a week or two, and cant put any weight on his leg at all. He is wearing one of those gay white leg socks aswell, all the time.

nice, when i went to see the surgeon for the 1st time he didnt even send me for a scan, just played round with my leg and said, i'd snapped the ligaments, damaged the cartilage and he was putting me on the waiting list lol, most people have to be sent for an mri dont they?

Robb
22nd October 2008, 12:45
Oh, and his surgeon filmed bits of the operation and put it on a dvd, drilling into the bone and all that, through the keyhole cam, was quality.

Watching it made your knees feel all funny.

Dunno, my mate had similar problems a while ago. He is pretty good at football, played first team for pompey etc, he had one of the best surgeons in the country, cut alot of the waiting list, but i do think he had to have a load of scans cause of the previous injury etc...

Get your Mum to pop to the chemist and get you some long TED socks and some short TED socks... wear the long one on the bad leg and the short one on the healthy leg... they are like flight socks and are hard to get on, but really do help with the swelling............. Can't believe they didn't give you any..... glad I went private now!!

Chris :)

Look into getting some Cissus Quadrangularis tablets/powder... Its a plant that aids white tissue recovery a lot and also helps strengthen your tendons and bone. Have only ever seen good reviews about it helping tendon/bone related injurys. I've got some on order :y:

Ha my mate had his stitches out the other day. I say stitches but apparantly its just one big stitch. Feels proper wierd when they take it out apparantly.

Also hes been told he may never be able to feel when someone touches his knee ever again, something to do with bloodflow to the nerves or something.

I've got probs with my knee too, apparently my knee cap never fused correctly so i've got basically cartilage holding it together. I've found heat pads help, cant keep them on for long but they do ease the pain a bit.
