Ive had my vts for over 6 months now and every month or so i need to top up the engine oil. I usually have to add anything from half a litre to a whole litre. My engine runs perfectly all through the revs and doesnt knock at all. I have no blue smoke coming out of the exhaust at all throughout all of the rev range either. my car has 79k btw

I know it could either be the stem seals or the rings but im confused as to why my engine runs so well. do they burn this much oil?

i need to know what is most common to fail on vts's as im unsure whether to get a new lump or strip the head as i can do the work myself.

Any help is much appreciated
Thanks

Give the engine a good clean - then see if you have any visable leaks after a few days.

i have cleaned around the rockers and theres no leaks around them or anywhere else on the engine. i had to change the filler cap a few weeks ago. theres no way that im loosing that much oil when there is no visible oil leaks on the engine. the engine doesnt smell of oil buring from leaks at all, im totally confused tbh

thanks for the help, it isnt my plug as ive had the gearbox off three times in the past month and there is no oil from the plug. im starting to think my stem seals are knackered.
does anyone agree with me?
