charmone mofos
right I have a computer but a majority of the internals are 5 years old.
the motherboard is shit.
but I've got a mint sound card, and 4 harddrives (IDE) (two of which I'd like to transfer over to the new machine). got monitorz (one DVI, one VGA), got cdroms n shit too.
so basically I'm guessing I need a box thing, a mobo, a processor, ramz and that's it I think? and graphix card
I know the geeky fuckers that run the industry keep changing like the PCI stuff n shit but can the stuff I have be transferred over or have things really moved on since I first got mine.
thank you kindly.
lovely life changing amounts of rep available x

well you can hook 2 IDE drives into 1 connector remember..
imo as long as its quad core intel with 4gb youre laughing, if youre going 4gb or more tho its worth looking at 64bit windows.

anymore info...
i was looking at 4gb minimum... but the processors confuse the crap out of me now. duel, duo, quad, then good old mhz rating and L2 cache.
not sure which is the outright fastest though

Why recommend him stuff he doesn't need?
Duel core, with standard windows/vista would be fine.
You won't play games I expect, and only do abit of picture transfering?
If so I'll get a list together for you for tomorrow if thats ok?
Just drop us a PM for what you want it for!! :)

For the price without the badge you could build an equivalent for about half the price with a nicer less camp case! :P

lolIDE.
Agreed @ Dannyjay, no point speccing up a massive machine when you dont use it.
Agreed @ Alienware comment, lovely looking...shame about the huge price tag.

re quad core.. first off why the hell not when prices arent exactly huge. secondly batch editing images a quad will come in handy especially with CS4 having better multicore and 64bit support.

Probably some funky photo editing suite.
Core 2 duo
2gb ddr2 ram
I'd buy a good mobo, never skimp on them!
2 SATA HD's (I'd use one for storage and one for your OS)
Cheap gfx card (maybe a radeon 3850?)
450w PSU, if that?
You will get it all into a very tidy midi case as cooling wont be a problem.
Which sound card do you have? Should be very cheap to build a PC for what you want to do.

CS4 can use your graphics card to help with rendering etc. So you may want a slightly better card, although this depends on what sort of stuff you do with CS4, only you can decide that. Spec above is more than enough gj.

should work out about the same as the quoted one but with a cpu cooler(quieter,cooler..) much nicer case that will be quieter again and cooler+ a few tweeks which will either add performance or give similar for less money..

Well, i got the impression that he wanted something that was as cheap as possible but will run well. The £75 isn't for one drive, it's for 2x 400gb drives. He can use one as dedicated storage or as a backup and you'll get a small performance increase using 2 drives as well.
Also, the stock intel coolers are absolutely fine and run silent. There is absolutely no need what so ever to go and spend extra money on a cooler for a stock, core 2. If it was a quad core it would be worth it as they run a lot warmer but even then, the stock coolers are perfectly fine. I run my Q6600 OC'd to 3ghz on a stock cooler.
Never skimp on a psu or mobo as well. ALWAYS go for well known and trusted brands. I've personally used the Enermax PSU and it is fantastic. Shits on that standard 3rd world one you linked! :)
That 8800GT is also pap!

antec are 3rd world? :zainy:
the antec would do more than well for this rig which will barely use 300w majority of the time... and as for shitty on youd never know which psu was in the rig if they were both placed in the same rig!
for 14 quid more id always get a arctic freezer pro... its only 14 quid... you will see a nice ~10c drop and it running alot quieter...
agreed theres a performance gain from 2 drives BUT the samsung f1 is newer fast technology...
gigabyte mobo is more than adequate... (isnt it the same one you linked anyway? lol)
