hey guys,

im new on this forum and im sorry if u hav had this question before, but if u can help i will appriciate it loads!!!!

i hav a V reg 2000 saxo 1.1 (standard) and i hav recently bought the 15" fox evo3 alloys with the 195/45/15 low profile tires. The alloys look well good on the car but when i hav about 4 people (or 3 hefty ones)i find that the rear lip in the arch rubs on the tire and makes a nasty noise. it doesnt rub on the plastic part over the wheel arch but the thin lip of metal just behind that.

i also took the car to the local workshop and asked them if they can remove the lip but they said it would weaken the structure of the car and they wouldnt do it.

has anyone else had this problem??? if they hav and they can help me then it would be much appriciated as my lovely wheels are just sittin in my garage waiting to be put back on the car

thanks, Craig R

you have 15" rims and it rubs with passengers!?! the 1.1's as standard come with 14" don't they!?! have you had the car lowered?

the standard wheels on mine were 13" i think...yeah the wheels rub on the rear arches when i hav passengers in the back...no it hasnt been lowered either

i thought that 15" would fit easily will 4 people and with low profiles. this is why im so confused by it.

think the 1.1 comes with 13's as standard. as for trimming the arch weakening the car's structure- bollocks.15's will rub on a base model because the arches aren't wide enough for the 15's (which are at least 6" wide). Mark's (greensaxo) 1.1 is down 90mm at the back on 15's. he's had his arches trimmed and the 15's went on fine.

yeah i think my 15's are 6" wide or they could even be wider.

thanks for the info mate, thats helped me understand why it is rubbing. would u know how mark got his arches trimmed? could i do this myself at home?

how could i get in contact with mark? cos he would help me alot if he has a similar saxo.

thanks again mate

click on 'member list' at the top of the page and type in 'greensaxo' and send him a pm. i'm sure he'll help as much as he can.
basically , take off the plastic bump strip, trim the arch from the inside with an angle grinder and possibly tap the arch out a bit using a bodywork mallet and dolly. then you coat the inside of the bit you trimmed with hammerite( stops rust) and you replace the plastic arch trim. maybe making it sound easier than it is so if you're not that confident then any decent bodyshop should have no trouble doing it for no more than £100 i'd reckon. smileys/smiley4.gif
