Hi all,

This is my first post here so I will try to be as clear and concise as possible.

I have a S reg 1.1sx Saxo (appx 92,000 on the clock)

My problem started about a week ago when I noticed that the heaters in my car were not working. The fan was blowing air through fine, but just cold air no matter where the hot/cold slider was placed.

Then a day or so later my temprature gauge came on whilst coming home from work. So i checked my radiator tank and found this to be low and topped up appropriately. The heating then worked once again.

Yesterday morning I was on my way to work when the temprature light came on again. This time I found that the radiator bottle was leaking from the top, like it had boiled over and i then checked my oil to find out that it was extremely low (I have a very slow oil leak on the car and check it regularly to see if it has become worse), thus i concluded that the radiator had boiled over due to lack of oil.

I then topped up both the oil and radiator and drove home later that day. The temprature light remained off but I have now noticed that my heater is no longer working and that, once again, my radiator bottle was leaking from the to as if it had boiled over. I checked all hoses underneath, and there seems to be no apparent leak. The oil isnt leaking although upon when topping up my radiator i did notice "grey" sludge in the water and under the radiator bottle cap. I have also noted that my fan is always running after i switch my engine off (even after short journeys) yet I can not get hot aor to blow into my car.

Sorry if this is a poor explanantion but its as accurate as i can describe.

Kind Regards,

Andy

Thanks.

I took my car to a garage last night who confirmed that the head gasket has gone (althought he didnt do a compression test) because there was a lot of oil in my radiator water.

I have been quoted around the £300 mark for repair, does this sound reasonable?

Cheers,

Andy

Sounds about right for a headgasket repair yeah

Might be able to find a little lower though.

Well I have just moved into a flat and I can throw a stone at the garage from my front room so I reckon i will settle on this, or if it turns out to be more expensive then I will buy a little run around and scrap mine.

Just one more thing, are saxo engine blocks aluminium or cast iron?
