I have been asked to setup a friends broadband and having problems with it and a laptop on windows vista.
The sky router is locked (cannot get into the admin panel!!) I was going to change the WPA code to WEP to try and address the problem but cannot do it without going into the admin panel!!! :n:
Has anyone else had this problem? I was round there for hours last weekend and couldnt get it working on the vista laptop. It connects and works but keeps dropping singal every 5mins.
Has anyone got the username / password for a sky netgear router? Ive tried admin , password, sky, root, administrator .... all the usual.
Thanks.
P.S THE OTHER LAPTOP WITH XP WORKS FINE!

yeah, doesnt work mate.
Ive just found info on flashing the router and a username / password generator..... apparently every router has a different username and password...... why does sky have to be so akward?!?!
Hopefully hanging security to WEP will sort the issue out with vista laptop

the wep key number can be found on the bottom of the router it should be a netgear router if your with sky, you need to have this entered to be able to access the network :-)

oh and the username password is individual to each account holder and your mate should have received these details in a letter around the same time all the wireless gear was delivered, it's a sky.com email address and a password simply

Thanks mate but i think your talking about general setup.....
Im talking about accessing the admin panel in the router via 192.168.2.1.
I am aware the WPA code is on bottom of router but i want to change the security over to WEP and set my own key.

TBH, Buy a decent modem/router, use DMT Tool to get the info from it (since sky lock it's into that modem/router)
and you'll have yourself a nice little connection :)
On the otherhand, isn't there a reset button on the router it's self?
Tried admin / admin or admin / password ... when I setup my mums I'm sure it was one of those instead of the admin / sky.
Just a thought.

Don't think you can do any of that with Sky can you? I've got Sky and i've never been able to access the admin panel!

Yeah you can access it, but it's pretty much on lockdown, whatever you change seems to be amended back to default.
Hence the use of DMT tool to get your details and use a new router, lol.

All done now guys,
I flashed the router and updated the formware which resets the router to factory settings and then username is admin password is sky
I then set it to WEP code and its not dropping connection anymore! Im aware this voids terms and conditions but they wont know and the person i did it for doesnt contact sky about technical problems anyway :) Now have full access to the admin panel
