Breather filters illegal ??????

Noticed a thread about 2yrs old where breather filters were discussed and somone mentioned that breather filters were illegal and would fail mot, anyone know if this is correct or not

Yes on a modern car it is illegal to vent the engine gasses direct to atmo. It is a MOT fail and is also a offence so the police can fine you or potentially even prosecute for it. But as its a none safety aspect and perfectly legal on older cars its generally ignored by both police and MOT testers alike.
