looking at a new one, made a thread a while back

anyway to cut a long story short.. i would get one around christmas time, and look to spend around £600 - £900 on one

ideally want as much RAM as possible (4gb?)
and a biggish hard drive (250gb - 400gb)

but thats all i know about comps..

seen this (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop_studio_15?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs)

is it any good?

also, what are the makes to look out for in my type of price range / spec?

are the likes of samsug, toshiba etc etc any good?

wouldnt mind another dell as ive got one currently

Get a white Macbook, and then add the upgrades you want?

what do you want it for tbh? if you want it to be able to do any kind of gaming make sure its got dedicated graphics... if not you could easily be happy with something around the 500/600 mark... blu ray wanted?

as an example right at the top of your budget you could have this:
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Sony_Vaio_FW11S_Laptop_VGNFW11S/version.asp

it would play most games at reasonable settings maybe not so well on a few but all in all quite good and probz faster than the pc your on atm lol

actually with 3gig of ram

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/asp/versions.asp?rewrite=M51SE-AS112C_M51SE-AS112C&pagetype=version&page=

this would give similar results... and chances are there not even supplying a 64bit operating system making 3gig vs 4gig pretty much pointless as it cant utilise the extra ram properly...

basic laptop wise id look at dell from the business range better value to be had there... dell vostros like this one...

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&kc=N4X17104&l=en&m_30=143175&oc=N1017123&rbc=N1017123&s=bsd

but @ only 100 quid more the one above gets you blu ray and a better graphics chip...

so it all comes down to what you want out of it... if you actually just want a more basic laptop no gaming no blu ray.. just for word, internet email, msn etc then something more around the 400-500 mark... 2ghz core 2 duo, 2/3gig ram 160+gig hard drive something like that...

o and another thing to mention is because of changing technology looking 2 months in advance is a lil pointless price drops, newer tech, new products, xmas deals etc

fair enough.. cheers for the advice btw.. not a big gamer, but would want it for music tech programes, vids music etc etc

as for xmas deals, ill hopefully be looking into one. just wanted to get a rough idea on what was on the market for my kind of spec / price range

im not that knowledegable about comps etc, but want the best for my money

best for money wise drop me a pm nearer the time :P

if your not much of a gamer and just want a nice fast laptop wouldnt see much point spending over 700...
could have something slower that would still do what ya want for 500-600...

so its a bit of a budget vs speed vs what ya after really...

o and whether you'd make use of blu ray :P cause that seems to add a nice premium just so companies can say it can do it...
