Hello everyone, my names James aka Wilksey. I Became a member of Sax-p a few months ago just before I purchased my VTR. I have been lying low for a while only posting the odd thread as I wanted to do most of my work to my car before posting a progress thread, so I can show nearly all the work all in one thread!
My first car was a 1995 Rover Metro 1.1 ooooh the power lol, but gotta start some where aye! Decided to get a VTR because they look the dogs bollox especially when modified and they are cheapish to insure.
I was going to get a GTI but due to insurance reasons that went out the window. But ive always had a soft spot for the VTR's!
After deciding on a VTR I went to view a few around my local area but a Icelandic Blue one had been in a crash and the body panels didn't fit on properly, viewed a nice Topaz gold one but there where to many little things that needed doing to it with the body work and engine etc which didn't reflect in the price.
So in the end came across this one, its from the year 2000 with 55'000 miles showing on the clock at time of purchase.
The car was pretty much standard when I bought it, the only modification it had was a Scorpian back box and the front had some 40mm lowering springs on. So as you can emagine the bench mark was set and the fundings started to go down lol.
Here are 2 picture's day I got it on my drive way after I had give it a quick clean.

When I had my shitty old Rover as you do, I decided to put a banging sound system in it, which is now in my VTR. It consists of a Pioneer 1200 Watt Sub, a 500 Watt In Phase Amp, 2 Kenwood 300 Watt 6x9's And a Pioneer Mosfet Head Unit. Me and my mate fitted these and bad luck was on my side, when putting the seat belt bolt back in at the bottom, my mate the W***ER tightened the bolt straight through the blue speaker wire that run's to the head unit, so then I had to spend more time soldering that back up! This was one of the first mod's I done myself and here is a picture of that.

With my tunes now sorted, it was time to concentrate on the styling of the VTR. After looking at a few photo's of red Saxo's I decided to go down the black and red route. As I didn't fancy the white approach. Just not my thing.
So off I went and had a good old mooch on the internet for some new alloys, with black in mind, I really wanted some Team Dynamic 1.2's in black, But could't find any for a decent price round my area. So, after a good look I come across some Wolfrace High Octanes in black with a silver lip. They where being sold by a lad in Evesham for £350, but soon knocked him down to a fiver under £300 pound. Was well chuffed, So off i went to collect them on a Sunday and fitted them the same day.
Here is a picture day I got them.

Now, as with my luck, a few things then went wrong with the car. Within the first few weeks of buying it.
The exhaust had been put on really shit, and started rattaling and blowing where the back box joined the middle part, so had to go and get a new clamp and putty was used to help seal the blow.
The handbrake cable was really loose but this wasn't nothing major and I soon tightened that. The car wen't in for a full service, with a full oil change and a new seal round the ariel as it was leaking! I then opted for a K&N Panel filter element as my mate had a spare one going, this will keep me going till I get my induction kit!
The exhaust was done by my local garage ATS who charged a sum of £1 for a new exhaust clamp, some new putty and the exhaust straightned up as it was banging on the bumper.

After getting the rims sorted, the black theme was still in full swing and the question of tints was now on my mind. Some car's look over the top with tint's but I decided to grab the bull by its balls and go for it.
I opted for all round tints, which set me back a modest £160. They are 70% on the rear and 50% on the front :D
Here are a few pic's of when I got them finished. I think you'll agree they suit the car, Panic over lol.

As you can expect getting all this done within 1 month of getting the car wasn't such a wise move as my funds where running out very quickly! But I pressed on as I knew what I wanted out of the VTR.
One of the days when I was washing my car I pulled the rear wiper off :S as the muppet who owned the car previously instead of buying a new wiper arm, was a cheap-scate and super glued it back on :S WTF! So....this sparked an idea, why not de-wiper the rear and make it look smoother. So...that's exactly what I done.
Next on the list as some of you may have noticed from the pic's was the rear need's to be lowered. So yesterday (Saturday 18th October) my sound mate, Carl collected my car at 8am for it to have some new rear pad's, de-wiper the rear, and lower the rear by roughly 45mm. As he work's for a Pug dealership he knows what he's doing unlike me! So I gave him a small fee to get my car slammed and the the little extras.
So today I went up to my local park (Likey Hills) and done a small photo shoot after most of the mod's have been done.
These pic's show some of the most recent modifications such as // The lowering, De-wipered and just a general clean. The weather isn't the best so I done my best. This is how the car stand's to date! Let me know what everyone thinks. If any one live's in the south Birmingham area & want's to meet just let me know.
The future modifications are going to be mainly to the engine most likely in the new year. Im going to fit -
* Raceland Enclosed Induction Kit
* 4-2-1 Manifold
* Pug sport Straight Through De-cat Exhaust
* Then finally Re-map the ECU.
