Before anyone says anything, yes i know theres been numerous threads on this already. I just wanted to know what the best plan of action is.
It randomly came on last night and stayed on, went to the car this morning to go to work and yep, its still on.
Now do i wait it out until the weekend to see if the problem goes? and then if it doesnt take it in for diagnostics?
My cars never skipped a beat before but last night when the light came on and i was driving home, when in third its stuttered a bit (probs nothing but u know).

Could be anything mate.
Take it too a garage you know and get on well with.
Sometimes they'll check the diagnostics for free :y:

do they do diag tests when they mot cars? and do most garages have them? if so i could probs get it looked at for nothing :P good stuff.

They wont Diag test it when they MOT it but most garages will have a tester

I took my VTS to Citroen and slipped them £10 for putting my car on their diagnostics machine. But that is because I used to take my car down there hell of a lot and knew them quite well!!! Some places will do it for free, while others may charge you.
For a quick fix, you could re-set the ECU by dis-connecting and leaving the battery for about ten minutes and then re-connecting it. See if the light comes back on. If so, I'd take it and have it put on a diagnostics machine. If not, then it may have just been a blip :)

cheers for the info all, i think what il do is leave it for now until the weekend and see if it sorts itself out, in the mean time sort out a diag check at some point when i can.
Hope its not anything to do with the cat or lambda sensor =/

Do you have a de-cat?

I'd try disconnecting and reconnecting the electrical connectors at each of the engine management sensors. This sometimes helps as the electrical conductivity can sometimes deteriorate. Otherwise I'd get it checked as soon as you can as it can overfuel and ruin the cat if it's left like this.

I asked if it's de-catt'd because you said the lambda sensor may be causing the problem. The engine management light does normally come on if the car's been de-catt'd and that's easily resolved by fitting a lambda sleeve (if the cat's under the car and not within the manifold). But if you still have the cat, I very much doubt it's down to the lambda sensor. Your best bet would be to have it connected up to a diagnostics machine. At least that way, it's done properly and it'll put your mind at ease knowing it's nothing serious (we hope).

I have a de-cat fitted to my 2000 reg saxo vtr and the engine management light has never come on because off this.
Mozza does you vtr have a air filter fitted i.e aftermarket? becuase my k&n thats fitted to mine every now and again there is a pipe around the back near the bulkhead which falls out, now that would cuase the judder you mentioned because it a Idle Air Control valve. if i was you just check hoses and unplug and reconnect connectors as they can lose contact. then disconnect the battery as mentioned and leave it 10 mins and reconnect.

Was the sensor sorted out when you had the de-cat fitted though?

Well it'll only come on when there may be a problem. So if it's off now, assume there's no problem.

it came on mines for no reason at all... car was fine took it to diagnostic charged £15 resetted light, couple days later it came back went back to same place he did it for free again said there was prob with the lambda sensor on the exhaust and had the light resetted again.
after that bought a new sensor but the light never came back on lol :D it hasn't for months now so imo it's prob just shitroen engineering lol i ended up buying a skimpy verison of the diag machines for about £30 to check ti just in case it came back.
