can be used to tell whether there's a leak in the head gasket - however, if you're lucky, you'll catch it in time and it wont progress that far, but make sure you do the bleeding and if needed thermostat before driving it

Be very careful when re tightening number 2, they have a habit of snapping off.

Ha. Well.
I have made some progress, before I only thought #1 existed, a lot of water went in, but I was still getting cold air. Now I am getting hot air but still overheating... why?
Because #3 decided to break. So that little cap is leaking at the top. Where can I get a new one?
Also just a note that the radiator cap was on pretty tight, but leaking?? Are you supposed to use your brute strength to tighten them? Heh. Thanks for the help.

Scrap that, it is exactly the same as the one on tires! Testing again now, fingers crossed!

Up and running, got a bit worried, at one point a shite loada white smoke was coming out, but it settled down eventually.

Well it was fine yesterday, drive it 5 minutes down the road today and the same problem.
Yeserday I stuck the hose in the radiator when the car was on and left 1 and 3 open. 3 was spurting crusty coloured liquid out, so I continued until the water was clean. Took about 5 mins. Then I turned the engine off, opened 2.
I closed 2 and 3 and filled up with water.
Let the engine run till the fan kicks in.
Opened 1 and 2, 3, filled up with water.
Let the engine run till the fan kicks in.
Repeated 3 times.
And try drive this after noon and it happened again. I pulled over and opened up 3 and it came spewing out again. Opened 1 to put more water in and it kept slowly going down. Put in about a litre then drove back.
I had hot air for about 1 minute, then it went cold and the engine over heated.
I have no white smoke/creamy oil.
My temp gauge seems to be fine.
Am I doing the bleeding wrong? This is starting to annoy me.

I think either your headgaskets gone or your heater matrix is burst.
Steve.

Cheers. I think its definitely a garage jobby, giving up on it now. Hopefully its not the HG, its not got the signs.
Was thinking the water pump may have packed up.
How much am I looking at for a dead Heater Matrix/Water Pump. And if its the pump, is it worth getting my cam belt done at the same time?
Cheers
