right, im thinking of selling the saxo, i've been looking for a 1.6 scooby for ages, niow i no a few of you will say its not a real scooby with out a turbo,
but im 18 and a turbo would be riduclous on insurance.

so im looking to get a 1.6 scooby and then make it a sti replica.
the car i have in mind has 120,000 miles, i no this is alot, so what are they like for maintence bills etc,

thanks rob

Depends how much money you have to replace parts on Scoobies if it goes wrong?

Expensive to maintain if something goes.
A 1.6 Subaru isnt worth the hassle.

Get a CRX non-vetec.
Easier on the insurance and fast as for a 1.6

i will have about £2500 max, and the car is about £700, sounds cheap and dodgy but i think the car may be alright

Scoobys are not hard to maintain an dont cost alot. I serviced it myself for £52 - full coolant change/oil/sparkys/filters

When i got mine i was expecting it to cost me ALOT on servicing etc an it didnt.

Fair enough they are a bit thursty but nothing major. You dont buy a scooby to worry about fuel consumption lol.

IIRC the 1.6s are fwd. Get yourself on scoobynet mate theyw ill answer all your questions or PM me.

But then again CRX's are lovely cars but you usually need to pay a good bit for them. And alot are rot boxes. My mates CRX is on 198k on teh same engine/gearbox lol it does drink oil but still goes like stink

Connor you must use thie shitist of shitist parts to service

When i owned my scooby the service was done every 6k and the oil itself was 60 for a very decent good quality millers oil and the plugs were not cheap as the were grade 4 ngk r's which run at a low temp

An scooby especially uk ones with drunk juice now matter how slow or fast you drive them

To maintain a scooby is more then you think, just takes some little and daft to make it all go wrong

I get parts cheaper than the norm mate. But still its not that bad.

I find people over exagerate about how much fuel they use etc

They dont drink fuel as bad as everyone makes out unless you drive like a total bellend all the time.

My brothers P1 is a thursty car aswell but again nothing major.... But i suppose people see things differently. As if someone is prepared to pay alot for fuel they wont see it as been bad....

Its more but not ALOT more. Well mine is nothing major anyways an im running with mods aswell

Has it been re-mapped

Yea mate the previous owner got it "live mapped"

leeroybrown
29th October 2008, 10:17
Then thats why.... mapped one always gets better fuel comsumption

Whats the spec on yours?

Please dont say its the one with the slanty intercooler?

Its got a different engine in her as the sport engine popped so it got a WRX one in with all the running gear, shocks, interior, dash blablabla. everything. I got the docs for the old car aswell

Havent had it on a RR yet so will need to soon

I bought some 4pots aswell for her ;-)

FMIC
3" bore exhaust into a 5" backbox
remapped
Forced induction kit
fancy ignition leads
dump valve

OH no its worse then I thought lol

WHo did the live map?

Must be a 2000> plus engine and ecu to have it mapped as it needs a licence in order to remap the ecu

Gud luck mate, but ive always wanted a scooby aswell. I think you should just try and wait abit and get a Turbo Scooby or the STI;), i dont think the 1.6 Scooby is worth it....

Connor_scotland

to be honest i think i VTR may beat the 2.0 sport.... Im positive a lad in town beat one at crail

Ocego_VTR
29th October 2008, 19:26
Its not worth buying a 1.6 or 2.0 as they are ghey

There was a lad with one round here thought it was a turbo with a big bore exhaust, thought he was a rally driver and thought his sport was the fastest thing ever until he met ours on the duel carrigeway.

Best thing to do is buy a cheap import can get them for £3000 with low miles with backup.

1.6 scoobys are DOG.

My mate has one here in milton keynes, its insanely slow. Due to the weight its lugging, my vtr beats it in every speed aspect.

He gets an AWFUL lot of stick as well for it being a 'fake' scooby.

Yeah it looks good, but you will ALWAYS have other big cars, such as bmws/evos/vxrs etc trying to race you...

get a 2.0 non turbo there still cheap to insure mate has one paying 900 fc with 1 year ncb

Jazz

Personally wouldn't bother with the non-turbo models of Scoobs. Repairs for the 4WD drivetrain can be heavy, maintenance is significant and they're not quick in the least.

Turbo models with full-service history are a thumbs up however, if you can insure the thing. :y:

i would love a fast car like the turbo spec, but im only 18 and the insurance would rape me. and also im more into looks than speed

Its not worth buying a 1.6 or 2.0 as they are ghey

lol i would imagine that, seen plently of cocks at meets with their 'rallyrockets' or 'supernovas'. I'd rather have a replica and show it off than race someone down the motorway.

i imagined the 1.6 being very slow so i was also looking at the 1.8 model for a bit more power. and i agree with the 'fake' comment, but at the end of the day, if im not bragginjg to everyone that i have a turbo then i should be ok, and those saying its fake are just jealous lol.

i've also been looking at mazda mx5, very fun little car, rear wheel drive, very cheap to buy and around the same on insurance.
i was looking at VW golf, focus and Audi A3, but i see them as the typical car, and i want something alot different.

my mate had 2 1.6 impreza's.

Good for banter since it was a fake wrx but totally gutless, needed to rev it to go anywhere. He said it drank fuel but he always complained about having no money for fuel yet drove about ALL the time in it.
