Help please.

Right, started my car up this morning. Sounded as though my exhaust had come off. Really lumpy idle. Drove to my partners and all the way here it was umming and arring whether to go or not. Really holding back when i pressed the accelorator then a sudden burst of speed. Could smell petrol, car is decatted btw. Got to my partners and popped up the bonnet with the engine running and there was some kind of smoke coming from under the heat shield over the manifold. Started it up after and it semt ok. We'll see what its like in the morning. Taking it to the garage to get checked out but what are peoples opinions on what it could be? Cracked manifold? Manifold gasket had it? Help would be great and sorry for the essay.

Of what exactly? I haven't taken the heat shield off to check the manifold but from the gasses escaping from there and the noise as though there was a hole in my exhaust i'm guessin it could be somethin to do with my manifold? Best not be expensive. Skint :(
