got 3,500 saved up, considering either a mk2 vtr, a 205 Gti 1.6 or 1.9 or saxo vts. Im 21 with no NCB so insurance is still pretty expensive..... advice????

ps> got a thing for 205s :P

How long will you be keeping it for? And what will you be using it for?

VTRs are quality plus you dont get slaughtered on the insurance compared with the other cars I own a VTR they drive sweet too and are quick happy hunting

VTR vts would sting you bit more on the insurance.

I wouldn't buy a citroen full stop, i wouldn't actually trust it lasting 5 years as they always seem to be going wrong. maybe take a look on a high mileage Audi A3 a Seat?

I'd say VR bud, I got mine when i was 23 or so and loved it to bits. Fast enough, cheapish and if looked after they can be fairly reliable. VTS is too expensive for little gain, 205 gti as much as I love them wont be cheap to run or insure and if you have a crash :panic:

Yeah I would have said VTS, but since you have 0 NCB, will be cheaper and more sensible to get a VTR in my opinion, unless you have alot of money to blow on insurance?

non, go jap.
3.5k will get you in the seat of a glanza v or a well tuned starlet gt (180bhp+),
animals.
p.s i voted for vts as i also have a 106 gti which are a hoot to drive

some of the insurances have them under 1.3's aswell, cheap insurance!!

I'd say VTR even more now then mate, plus you'll probably have some cash left over to pay for insurance or get some mods or whatever :y:

A VTR will make you a very happy boy!

lisa

vtr's are good aslong as you don't get bored and want to upgrade to vts within 5 years because if your going to that you may aswell go straight for the vts but thats only my opinion

Sammy-Boy
29th October 2008, 23:50
Go for a VTR mate more powerful than a 1.1 and will give you an idea of how fast VTS' are

205gti 1.9 - keep it, look after it and it will be worth more in 5 years than what u paid for it!

I miss mine

For this reason...

at least 5 years hopefully and driving to work + the enjoyment of driving seen a really nice 205 on ebay though

Maybe a 206? More comfortable than a 205 and most old saxo's, more practical, and can be fun. Well suited for M road travelling, in 5 years you won't wish you had bought a bigger car too ;)

Otherwise, a vtr would take my money, a 205 is a good option but too much money to keep it mint imho.

out of the options up there^ id go for vts.

out of your poll i would def pick the vts,
however with 3,500 you should be looking into getting a glanza!

I purchased my VTS in 2003 and I never believed I would keep it for 5 years. I only got it as it was so cheap I was planning on selling it a few weeks after owning it but I fell in love with it.

205 1.9gti would be great fun but trying to find a decent one that hasn't been thrashed or trashed could be difficult! so i'd go with a vts

What he said.

205 would be nice, but there all getting on abit now and unless your handy with a spanner and can be arsed might not be worth the hassle, as most things are going to be worn, plus alot have had a hard life.

saxo VT model, they are nippy and since they are still quite new, parts wont cost the earth either new or from the scrappy.

if you buy a VTR you'll be wishing why didn't I buy a VTS...I like do

205's are brilliant, we have a track ready 1.9 gti. Mental tbh.

But... They are getting on a bit, and they are french. The two factors alone might be bareable, but the combination means you do have a higher chance of getting a troublesome one!

VTS if you can afford the insurance, if not, VTR with a few mods.

I've had my 205 nearly a year now and everything that has broken has been down to myself really.

Its all wear and tear things!

I haven't had anything major go wrong with it. its hasn't been anymore unreliable than my Saxo was.

alextoffie
30th October 2008, 12:46
If you're definitely getting a Saxo and you've got 5k spare i'd spend a max of 3-3.5k at a push.

You'll get yourself a nice VTS for that price, then save the rest of the money.

Either put it in savings or keep it on the side to help with insurance, tax, or any unexpected bills that can come your way.
