there really are alot of these treads mate, do a search.

basicly it could be an enormous amount of things, including sensors yeah.

have a look at the idle control valve m8 take it off and give it a good clean, or the throttle bodie too come to that, also i had an old vauxhall caviler that use to do this and that was the throttle cable that use to get stuck

I had this problem mate with the revs, my acceleration cable was sticking and the revs wouldn't drop below 2000 revs, so under the bonnet were the acceleration cable is I just sprayed 'a lot' of wd40 on the cable, and on the black accelerator thing... also inside the car were ur accelerator peddle is the cable there I sprayed wd40.

This worked for me so maybe will help you, but my revs were lower than yours. hope info is useful mate

ive also got this problem, my car is revving tself, i looked at the accelarator pedal and it was moving down on its own! now my battery is flay everyday for the past 4 days, have to keep using jump leads every morning. i replaced the lambda sensor but made no difference, i have bought a new coolant temp sensor and will be getting my bf to fit it at the weeknd, so hopefully that will help. my battery is only 18 months old but have jut found the receipt and its got a guarantee so will take it back to the auto facotrs for an exchange.
any ideas or help? i dont know much about cars being a girly girl
