does this make me cleaning my car throughly pointless?

i mean i'l happily spend 9hours detailing it but then it'll rain?... and its cold:n:

is it best to do 2sponge method and chamois leather and tyre shine and metal polish for now... as iv been doing for a long time...

then proper detail after xmas when weather is alot warmer?

nah imo, i wash my car outside, (as my parents dont have a garage), i do the 2 bucket method and polish, if it rains just polish it again :), you take 9hours to wash etc your car ?? lol

It's all about the protection it adds to the paintwork etc. Give it one massive detail and then you should be fine just giving it the once over to keep it clean :)

9 hours?!? Thats hardcore :)

Always worth cleaning your car especially polishing and waxing it cause it will be easier to wash it next time and it protects the car :)

Wish i had a garage :(

last time i washed it

to my standards it lookd quite clean and that took me 5hours

but before it was even cleaner and that one took me 8hours

but it could be cleaner... imo... just havent got the equipment and i would love a garage to access everyday but cant use everyday due to other family members and rubbish in there and its not at my house its round the block so kinda useless if you know what i mean

sometimes i take my vts to the local jetwash put in £1 and jet it then use sponges all over... not their brush ... then jet wash it further and sponges... then home leather but not polish and this is a quick clean for me usually takes 2hours

If you give it a full detail when you can then it'll only need a quick wash every now and then over the winter :y: Gave mine a full 3 day detail, now it only needs a quick 30min wash every couple of weeks :D

9 hours ? what do you do in 9 hours ?

2 sponge method ? never heard of it, theres a two bucket method where you use two buckets and one wash mitt, not a sponge.

chamois leather, dont use that scratching shit, get a water magnet. Sonus towels are good.

Tyre shine only take two seconds, best is megs endurance, as it lasts ages and protects tyres.

Metal polish ? whats that ? Use wheel sealent once the wheels are dry, this will make it twenty times easier to wash your car second time round.

And i see no point in polishing a car if you dont put a wax on top, if its got a wax on top it will keep its shine and make it easier to wash your car second and third and forth time round.

Polish on its own isnt durable enough, as good as it looks when dry, as soon as you come round to cleaning your car the following week, it'll be gone, so best to polish then wax on top !!

Dude get a car cover ... helps protect my paint so much after giving it a decent detail.

Lol what you guys washing your cars with? A tooth pick. Come on!

James
12th November 2008, 18:35
No because a toothpick would inflict scratches and swirling..

Seriousley, I spend about 4-5 hours just washing and re-sealing my car(s)..

A quick weekly kinda clean takes me 3 hours if I work fast, and thats just for the exterior of the car. 9 hours is easily possible, people who aren't into the cleaning side of things would be suprised at how quickly the time flys. By the time you get do the wash, polish, sealant, bump strips, alloys, windows, tyres, arches, door shuts etc. (in no particular order) then 9 hours will soon be up.

Back to the point of the thread, I don't have a garage or anything like that. Also I've heard that those plastic sheets for covering cars can scratch/ damage the paintwork as the wind blows and they repeatedly hit the car.

i thort that was the case with the cover things...... gona av to just build a garage ha :zainy:

9 hours to wash a car is hard core.

I use to think 3 hours when I washed my car was mad! In 5 years of owning my Saxo ot once have I ever waxed or clayed my car. One weekend soon I'm going to give it the full works.

Pat_Vts
12th November 2008, 21:59
my 9hours are quite simple (i use new sponges each time adsa 30p ftw)

1) hose it down
2) sponge bucket clean car (sponge 1)
3) hose it down
4) sponge bucket clean car (sponge 2)
5) hose it down
6) autoglym spray wheels
7) clean wheels
8)hose it down
9) clean door stills boot etc
10) go over the door still boot etc with a clean wipe like window or anything
11) whip water off / towel
12) leather dry it incl wheels
13) tyre shine with brush nano tyre gel
14) hoover inside and clean windows inside
15) metal polish metal parts (meguairs metal polish recommended)

i do have a lunch break and a few tea breaks in between though thus resulting in round 9hours to complete but with a mate its like 1hour for a quick wash not in detail such as door stills though

also after i clean it i write down the imperfections in the bodywork

got a notepad of lots of little imperfections :@ would fix it but its not economical sense

1 or 2 hours is a quick one for me ... Average is 3-4 i'd say. Rather take my time than rush, also that's giving the engine bay a quick clean. Better than leaving it for ages and having to give it a massive overhaul ...

Sponges - GTF!

oh yeah forgot engine and back to black all over on any black bits
