Here's my GTI as I bought it a couple of weeks ago, I've only debadged it and fitted a Green panel filter since. Might be refurbing the wheels in black after winter as well.

Plans are lower 50mm on Blisteins and Eibachs, black morrettes, Supersprint de-cat and some Ultraleggeras not sure what colour yet probably black but might get the new red ones.

Don't do the rims red. Black will look smart, or maybe white. But your car is gorgeous matey.

Yer I'm a bit undecided on the wheels they will probably go black cause I think that would look best with the rest of the car.

Thanks for the comments.

I'd only be getting 15" wheels and I'm gonna keep all the standard parts so I can put it back to standard if I decided to sell up or whatever.

Tbh most yellow GTi's look very similar with the yellow and black theme so I'd like mine to be a bit different but don't really know what will look good until I try it.

agreed
its hard to come by a really nice example of a nana GTI

ive always wanted one of these but got the S instead :-/

if it was mine id go for chrome angles on front and the MR style i think they call them  rear lights (clear top and red bottom) and leave it at that....but its not mine...do your own thing lol
nice car btw

Steve_90

engine engine bay could do with a clean. but red wheels would look naff on yellow imo. how about anthracite? black? pretty common combination but sets the car off good.

I thought I'd make this a progress blog as I have now sort of made some progress.

Since I've had it I debadged the boot and got some red GTI badges and painted the bonnet badge black no pics of it fitted yet.

Also gave it a service and fitted a Green panel filter.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg243/Scribbles172/My%20GTI/09102008039.jpg

Over Christmas I set about purchasing a set of Bilstein B8 dampers, Powerflex bushes, Faulkner 155lb/in springs and a Raceland induction kit. Ordering a better Green filter for it from Kam Racing before the induction kit goes on. Hopefully getting the suspension bits on in the next couple of weeks.

Been thinking about refurbing my wheels in black so I thought id do the spare see how it turns out and go from there. Its turned out ok so I'll be doing the others when I get some spare time.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg243/Scribbles172/My%20GTI/DSC01639.jpg

I've been invited to a rolling road day on the 17th January so I'm gonna keep it standard engine wise till then so I can see what difference any mods I make have done.

Thanks for the comments, tried out the wheel today and it looks good so just got to do the rest of them.

Future Plans:
Finish the other wheels
Powerflex Lower Engine Mount
Compbrake Quickshift
Kam Racing Uprated Gear Linkages
Supersprint Manifold
Supersprint Mid-Silenced Center Section & Race Backbox
Paint Cam Covers

Then that'll be it for a while but will be on the look out for some 15/16" Super/Ultraleggeras, 4 pots and maybe some morettes if I see any going cheapish.

I'm looking for some but I can only find Ford fitment ones second hand and dont fancy forking out 600+ on new wheels and tyres at the minute.

I would get the ford ones if I see some cheap but I wanted to run 20 and 25mm spacers on standard fitment for a pimp stance.

AlexB
20th January 2009, 16:31
you may end up with hectic rubbage doing that man
i looked into getting 8" wide ones for my rears to get stance (i have 16s) but the amount of archwork needed is silly

Haven't updated this for a while and missed a few of the comments so...

A bit strange that mine made a fair bit more torque then the other standard cars and some of the modded ones, hopefully its a sign that its been well looked after.

Still undecided on the wheels, ideally I'd like to have 2 sets of ultraleggeras in black and red but there proving difficult to find secondhand ones so may have to buy new (only one set obviously).

UPDATE

Right, well I got the Powerflex lower engine mount fitted and the torsion bar lowered 50mm so ride height is now spot on pics to follow tomorrow after the MOT.

I've almost finished my wheels just need a coat of laquer so I can get them on tomorrow morning, here they are in their current state (drying in the kitchen) and the car looking lost without them.

I know the bumper is sitting funny one of the arches is also missing a couple of clips, its annoying me too but cba to take the bumper and arch off to fix it may do this week.

For the arch clips is it just a case of removing the arch lining and the bumper just 4 bolts?

It looks good ... What's it like in the flesh? Any word on the Boss situation?
And to continue 20 Questions ... Are you going to the BHP show?

Scribbles
10th April 2009, 10:30
In the flesh the suede is quite good quality and it looks well stitched together, whatever they use to colour the spokes isn't the best quality but for the price its still good value for money.

Alex said he would speak to RD about the bosses and see if they'll swap them if not it'll be a refund and find your own boss. I have heard about similar problems with other bosses though about not canceling indicators and what not so they probably are the right ones just rubbish.

Hmm I'm tempted to go to the BHP show but I'd have to be back in Loughborough the same night and not sure if I fancy the 190 mile trip back after the show. If I'm back for the bank holiday and or can get a day off I might turn up and pay on the door.

Ferg
10th April 2009, 10:57
I've also seen that many of the bosses don't cancel the indicators, but that's not a major problem really. Like you say the bosses just might be rubbish.

Hmmm ... I wouldn't fancy doing a nearly 200 mile round trip tbh. But you could always pay on the door and come down for the goings on's. Should be a good day I'd imagine if the weather holds out.

Scribbles
10th April 2009, 11:02
If I decide to come home for the bank holiday weekend then I'll probably go just for the show and stand.

Had the same problem with the boss, The mountney one wouldn't go down far enough, I'm to impatient so ordered an OMP one from RD and it fits :)
Got to see about getting a refund for the other.

Fitted the Raceland and green filter the other week, made a bracket at work to hold up the power steering fluid. Engine bay is pretty scummy and the cam covers need painting and resealing as they're weeping a bit. I'll probably sort it out over summer.

hey, this is Steve's car, right those are 17" but then you need a rare 185/35ZR17 tyres.

The weight is not a problem, the 17" are only minimal heavier than the 16" the difference from 15" to 16" is mutch more.

looking good your car, how mutch is the Bilstein Dampers in UK?

cheers Michael

I want them in 15s so I can run track tyres. I'm sure the 17s are still lighter than alot of other 15" and 16" wheels anyway.

I think I got my Bilsteins for about £350 with Faulkner springs but the price went up quite a lot to about £450-500 earlier this year.

Went to a RR day last weekend too made 128.6bhp @ the fly, 128lb.ft sadly no wheel figure for some reason. Still need to scan the graphs. Pretty happy with the figures seeing as they seemed pretty strict rollers and its a good increase of 8lb.ft over my standard RR readout and the tester said the AFR was pretty much spot on across the rev range and the torque curve was nice and smooth.

Been a bit busy making some purchases trying to get ready for my trip to the 'ring next weekend.

Bought some R888s for the Superturismos and had them refurbed in gloss black. Sorted some new Mintex rear discs and pads just standard ones as they don't do much braking. Got some 406 Brembos these won't be on in time for the 'ring but hoping to paint them up red with some black logos, new discs and some decent pads haven't decided what yet for PPC in the Park.

Nurburgring

Got my wheels ready the day before I was off. Met up with a mate a Bluewater about 3am on the way to meet the others at Dover. Way over was trouble free clear motorways most of the way stopped at a service station for a bit of lunch. Arrived at our delux chalet. Smashed in a few laps, and a session on the GP Circuit over the 5 days we were there before making our way home.

Brands Hatch - Trackday

A few pics from Brands Hatch 27 July, good day out. Rained on the sighting laps and a brief shower when I was having lunch but as it was so hot it stayed dry.

Really enjoyed the circuit, very challenging. Need to build up some more confidence/bravery to brake later into Paddock Hill Bend and was just having to lift off through Surtees again need to be a bit braver to go flat out through there, just the braking at McLaren sometimes unsettled the car so didn't want to go flying off over the grass...
