Hi guys,
Just recived my fiberglass kit that i orderd and am going to have a fiberglass weekend lol.
Already done a bit of fiberglassing so know what im doing on an intermediate level. Just wondering, i want to re-design my doors.
By this i mean get rid of the door panel and make my own molded one. but im now quite sure how to go about doing this.
Should i make a mold of the door panel as it is now and then go from that shell??? The only thing that worrys me is two things!!!
1- If i make a mold of the door as it is now, whats the best way to attach it to the door???
2- Obviously need to make it really sterdy otherwise its just going to rattle with the 3 door speaks i put in them!!! Anyone got any ideas???
Really could do with the help. GOING TO BE A HUGE PROJECT.
But i really really wanna start doing alot of fiberglassing cause i love doing it. Who knows could start selling them maybe if i get good enough.

How much fibreglassing have you done before? If its not alot i wouldn't advice doing somthing like this so soon. Are you going to build onto the door card or build a new door card?

personally i would keep the base of the door card and work on top of that, either that or i would build straight onto the door rather than trying to attatch it. thats just the way i would do it

Yeah you guys make sense.
Dont a few 6x9 enclosures for some friends and started remolding my parcel shelf!! thats cool. didnt take any pics though, just nearing finish. so ill show you all when im finished.
Going to do a step by step guide this time for my own car speaker enclosures.
So do you think i sould keep the pannel and just mold it round there and then attch it to the pannel. OR Should i keep the border of the pannel and cut out the insides and make my mold from there. If that makes sense.
Should look so fat when its done.
What did you mean about having trouble attching fiberglass to plastic?? is that trickey then??? Havnet come accross that problem yet.
Thanks
Dan

fibreglass does stick to plastic very well, you need to key the surface as much as you can to get it to stick well, alternatively sink a good few little screws through from the back to the front so that the screw sticks out a little giving the fibreglass that little bit extra to speak to.
I personally would use the base of it at the very least to make it not just a good fit but a far easier job
