RGMSAXO
25th August 2005, 20:59
Thats what i thought! Is a VTS much quicker than a VTR?
jimmy16v
25th August 2005, 21:07
yes, quicker to 60mph by about a second n top end quicker. my mate had 122mph from his vtr with induction kit, xzorst. ive had 133mph from my vts with iduction kit n xzorst pal, prob would of done 135 on a long stretch. i jus kept with old insurance company bruv, should of shopped
RGMSAXO
25th August 2005, 21:11
Are the interiors the same or is there many differences? My mate has got a standard rs1800fiesta, would a VTS keep up?
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:12
Id say there a lot quicker 2! There 9.5 to 60 standard were as a vts is 7.7 which is a big difference. Ive drove my cousins vtr and tbh i thought it was slow! Ive had 130-135 clock and its running just a filter!
Yates
25th August 2005, 21:13
ive done 130 in my vtr and its totally standard and wasnt on a hill. mine breezes to 125
my mates insured on a vts he pays 2000 tpft!! hes 19 no no claims think hes with gsi or sumthin out the back of max power
Yates
25th August 2005, 21:16
vts front seats are more bucket like if u get me, like up the sides they go up further and are more comfy for drivin i think
back seats have headrests and split
9.5? that doesnt seem right im sure mines faster than that like
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:17
A vts would beat a standard rs1800 mate! 8 secs to 60!
RGMSAXO
25th August 2005, 21:21
My vtr is up for sale,i want a vts.
Yates
25th August 2005, 21:23
'cough for sale section cough'
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:28
Yeah thats wot all the mags quote for a vtr to 60 mate. I had mine timed at york and it did it in 7.4! There was a vtr there running just zorst and he was getting 9`s!
RGMSAXO
25th August 2005, 21:30
Which reminds what do people reckon of my car.Pics in for sale section.
Yates
25th August 2005, 21:32
seems a bit slow that like, mie have ago myself tonight!
jimmy16v
25th August 2005, 21:38
yeah mate, get a vts, there normally lighter n handle better then most other cars with around the same bhp so usually us vts boys can see em off. i did a 0-60 in 7.02s runnin filter n xzorst, i think i can do it quicker if i hit the gear changes spot on aswell
jimmy16v
25th August 2005, 21:40
yatesy, is your sax a 98bhp model vtr? that could explain it been a wee bit faster but itll still be round 9.5s to 60mph as hannon says bud
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:40
My mate had a go in his corsa 1.6 sport and it has 125bhp! He timed it with a stopwatch and it said 8 seconds, But up at york being timed properly he couldnt get it below 9! He was gutted!
RGMSAXO
25th August 2005, 21:42
Im hoping to speak to some special insurance companies who may give me a slight discount, cos i drive a blue light vehicle for a living.
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:42
Was that 0-60 timed on the strip Jimmy m8?
jimmy16v
25th August 2005, 21:43
vts saxos are mint, lightweight, powerful for size, i think 1 of the only things that let em down is the shit french build quality
Yates
25th August 2005, 21:44
yeah mines the 98 break one could explain it
HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:45

jimmy16v
25th August 2005, 21:45

HannonVTS
25th August 2005, 21:47

There ridiculous quotes m8! Im with admiral and there the cheapest i could find by far! I pay £900 fully comp on my mk 1 VTS wiv 1 years no claims and 4 anda half yrs driving experience m8!
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 17:38
as wicked as the vts is i cant see it being worth an extra 7 insurance groups, my vtr's got a bmc eclosed filter with a cat back exhaust system and myns hit 126mph and using a g tech performance meter o-60 reading of 8.2,(low fuel level with brand new pirellis and a hot sunny day) but for extra 5mph top end and lets say a 0-60 time 1-1.5 secs slower is all that extra insurance worth it. save that money and modify your motor!!!
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 17:48
The difference in real life is far greater than on paper m8. Ive raced a few and the`ve all had exhausts, filters and other engine work and ive beaten every single 1of them! On the 1/4 mile they dont get anywhere near vts`s.
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 17:58
i reckon id have to drive a vts to appreciate the real difference but i got my vtr when i was 18 and insurance is rediculous, but when ever i approach the lights im more than confident i can beat most cars of the line, ovbiuosly within reason! all my mates have got 1.1s and 1.2s and i think for an 18 year old a vtr is more than adequate, but i must admit if i had the money of course i'd buy the vts, but if you want a quick car on a budget the vtr i think is the way to go
jimmy16v
26th August 2005, 17:59
ill agree with hannon, i raced a vtr with filter, xzorst etc, on the bendy stuuf he kept with me (b4 mine was lowered, his was) but as soon as i opened it up on the long straight i left him standing. the insurance group difference is stupid like! am well happy that i got my vts n not a vtr tho
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:02
vtr is the way to go if you are 18/19. insurance isnt too bad and its a good performance car for the money.
insurance group 7, 98bhp, 0-60mph in around 8.4 secs, top speed of 120mph.
you would have to test drive a vts to appreciate the difference (as you say). with it having an extra 22bhp, top speed of 127mph, 0-60mph in around 7.8 secs it is impressive.
jimmy16v
26th August 2005, 18:02
am not saying a vtr is slow or shit mate, just well happy with the vts. the vts has a bit more moddin potential aswell for people after power
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:05
... but with the vts having 16v's the engine is far more tepremental than the vtr.
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:05
8.4 seconds?
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:08
vtr... 9.2 seconds (0-60mph) smileys/smiley9.gif
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:10
Everywhere ive seen says the vr is 9.5 and the vts is 7.7! I agree wen you say the vts is a lot more tempremental mate, The vtr`s can probably take more of a thrashing!
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:13
these are the figures taken from the saxo technical specification manual (march 2002):-

Max. Speed (mph) 120
0-62 mph (secs) 9.2
Insurance Group 7
Citroen Saxo VTS
Max. Power DIN (hp/rpm) 120/6600
Max. Speed (mph) 127

how do u mean more tempremental???
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:18
not too far away then mate! I did a 7.4 in mine(standard)
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:22
c those figures are good but ivhad my vtr over 120 and im sure sum of your vts's ahve gone over 127mph, (of the road of course!! smileys/smiley2.gif
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:24
Yeah mate about 135 clock speed on a private test track! smileys/smiley2.gif
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:25
of course! this is why i cant understand that in every magazine iv ever read the stats always under rate the cars performance, both vtr and vts
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:27
also what diffrence does the extra 8bhp make from the old vtr compared to the new, where the vtrs u raced mk1s??
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:30
Its for insurance purposes m8 and in the tests not all of the manufacturers rev it as high as it can be revved! There was a top gear program about it a while ago coz mitsubish stated that 1 of there evos did 0-60in 5.8 seconds( cant remember which 1) and top gear tested it and it did it in 4.7! They dont tend to drive them as quickley as they can be driven! The top speed tests are always done on a straight 2!
boz
26th August 2005, 18:30
my vtr has done 135
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:31
Ive raced both mk1`s and mk 2`s mate! The stats quote that there thesame to 60 i think even tho the mk2 has 8 more bhp! May be lighter i dont know smileys/smiley5.gif
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:32
135? what bhp is it running m8?
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:35
i dnt think there the mk1s and mk2s are the same, iv raced a couple and always come out on top, but to this day i haven't yet raced a vts, i know id lose but i race anyway so i could see the difference
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:36
iv raced a mk1 vtr in my mk2 vtr (for above)
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:38
not too far away then mate! I did a 7.4 in mine(standard)
did you or a mate time that?
i dnt think there the mk1s and mk2s are the same, iv raced a couple and always come out on top, but to this day i haven't yet raced a vts, i know id lose but i race anyway so i could see the difference
you'll be better pulling off as the 16v's take a little longer to kick in.
and the figures quoted in books, magazines and manuals are like an average. of course you would be able to push it that little bit more but the figures given are a basis.
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:40
It was timed at york last may mate! Ran a 1/4 mile in 15.4 @88mph 2 mate! Only thing i took out was the spare tyre!
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:41
ahhh i see. what have you had done?

HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:42
You ever run yours damo?
TOMMO86
26th August 2005, 18:42
well iv heard about that, iv heard that due to the vtr having a better low down gear box, smaller alloys that over say a 0-30mph sprint the vtr may be ahead, but i dnt this as iv never experienced it
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:44
Its standard apart from a viper mate! My mate has a standard 106 gti and he ran a 15.3@89mph and got a 0-60 of 7.25 which is fast for a standard car! Suppose it depends how fast your start is!
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:51
my mate has a vtr with a 1.4 gearbox and he can cane me up until around 50/60mph. but then his car tops out at 110mph where mine is still pulling until around 130mph (on my private road).
in the manuals, the gti's are slower but in fairness, they're not. its just the different testing methods that give them different figures to the vts and hence making it an insurance group lower.
my car has a bmc induction kit and i havent had it tested yet, but im having it rolling roaded on the 10th september.
HannonVTS
26th August 2005, 18:52
I have got the vtr wheels on as its a mk 1 vts! Think the 8 valve engines have more torque mate but when the vts`s come on cam they pull like mad!
DevilDamo
26th August 2005, 18:53

4,500rpm????? mine takes off at around 3,000rpm i love it like it might be a little slow off the mark due to the vtr box but it still flies
had it off the clock in 5th with it still pulling last sat night (on my private test track)
DevilDamo

ill have a go tonight and see where exactly it kicks in... well not exactly but you know what i mean.
MikeCracknell
27th August 2005, 15:58
i think 1 of the only things that let em down is the shit french build quality
LOL, you should see the build quality of my 53 reg punto. Jet washing it and bits of the back bumper fall out, cracks appearing inside in the plastic, suspension thats squeaks all the time, it gets greased then 2000 miles later it starts again...it goes on...
French is better than Italian!!!
