My first ever "Bricking yourself" moment since I've been driving.
Last night I was out in some country lanes in a place that I barely know (as we had just gone to a mates field to let of some fireworks).
I was probably doing 45 down a nice long straight bit of road, when I saw big arrows and a huge slow sign for a big long corner, so I eased off, and automatically my foot went to the breaks. BIG MISTAKE!
As soon as i touched the brakes (it was really lightly as well), I somehow managed to lock up all 4 wheels, and was sort of half drifting and aquaplaning straight towards the hedge and sign, and literally but for some quick wheel jerking (natural reaction, absolutely no thought in it) I'd have plowed into a bank at about 40. As it was, I flukily manged to regain control of the car, narrowly avoid the bank!
I was thinking it was probably a huge Ice patch, but I'm getting my tyres changed today just in case they've lost grip or something.
Single most scary thing that has ever happened to me whilst driving.

I hardly ever speed (except from time to time on the motorway) and I'm usually very cautious, which just goes to show how something can sneak up on you, despite how good a driver you *think* you are or how safely you drive.
I tell you 1 thing though, If It's a cold night and I'm in the lanes again, I won't be doing much over 20!!

When i was coming back from saxp meet on wednesday. At around 11pm, was going round a roundabout.. and car was just going sideways.
Tyres never screached.. just.. slid.
Being the awsome driver that I am. Everything was OK.

Oooh been there done that. Were you aquaplaning or was it that icey? Aproaching a bend I try to ease off the accelerator and ease on the brake don't find myself sliding anymore, only problem I have nowadays is the wind pushing the car on dual-ies and M roads.:n:

had quite a few moments of my own,and i been driving nearly twenty years.worst was going slightly down hill 65ish roundabout ahead.eased off then went to brake.foot went straight to the floor,i nearly slid off the seat into the foowell.frantically working clutch gears and later handbrake.got it down to 15ish as i got to the roundabout, nothing comming so got round it and ground to a halt.if there had been a car ahead i would have swung left and put mine in the ditch rather than take someone else out with me.
you can get caught out at any time and in any conditions,so be carefull.

Not sure whether you were asking me, or the other person that posted, but I started aquaplaning first of all, then as I applied the brake more (stupid, but natural reaction) the backend started sliding out, and it turned into almost a drift.
If I wasn't seeing my life flash before my eyes, I might have been able to hold the drift for slightly longer :p
All jokes aside, at the end of the day, I could not only have killed myself, but also my mate who was about 20 yards behind me, and almost went up the back of me as I lost control.

I struggled driving home today the rain was so heavy and it had been raining for the last 3-4 hours so the roads were already soaked and had lots of surface water I came home the country way and drove so slow but the rain was just so heavy there were some moments I thought the engine was gonna give up because of all the water from the road being sucked up into the car was touch and go
