having a good clean in my mk1 vtr and noticed under both front seats there is a wire that comes out of the carpet and goes into the bottom of both seats via a spade connector i think the wires were orange. Anyone know what they are never noticed them before. :homme:

its for the airback dude, attaches to the seatbelt pretensionors.

Yup, pretensioners, when/if you crash, they pull the seatbelt buckle down, so the seatbelt holds you tight in the seat, and in the right position for the airbag. :)

so if i ever change the seats say for buckets what would i do with the wires, if they were left disconnected would the air bag light stay on

yeah the light would stay on you could either leave it and ignore it or take the bulb out... thats what many people do i beleive!

mine is on all the time has been since bought the car just havent got round to checking the wires yet!

Not very good advice there tbh, as if you ignore it or take the light out, if you have a serious crash the airbag WILL NOT go off.

You best bet is to eaither take the pretensor out and attach it under your bucket seat etc etc so its still all conected.

Or put a resistor (think its a 2.0ohm) in the plug, which will fool the ECU into thinking all is still connected so the airbag WILL go off if you have a big crash :y:

Look in the stickys mate, its all in there :)

Alot of people DO do that, but it donest solve the problem, just hides it away. and the if you have a big crash, you may just regret it, if you live to do so lol!

Think there is a guide for it in one fo the stickys :y:

you have a choice.

Some people put resistors in them.

Or some take the pretentionor off the seat and cable tie it to the bottom of the bucket seat.

my light is such a dick, i disconnect the battery and then play with the wires like every week to keep the light off, but then comes back on again a week or 2 later, fed up, think i might just put a post it note in that corner

If you have bucket seats fit hanesses too...then you dont need an airbag to go if if all all goes a bit wrong
