the door wont close propperly and i have to push it in slowly to get 2 clicks on the latch but when im driving along and hit a pothole the latch unclicks and theres a slight gap. even when the door is locked it can be pulled open
and i noticed there was about a 3mm bigger gap at the bottom of the door

so i dont know if it needd re aligned or if the hinges are buggered or i need a new latch ???

HELP PLEASE !! :)

sounds like the catch is not pulling the door in enough and pulling the door to far up so you would be correct in thinking it needs re-aligning.

Has your motor ever been pranged? Don't think you can adjust the position of the door as I'm pretty sure the hinges are welded. You may be able to replace the pins through the hinge or adjust the position of the latch plate / pin slightly perhaps, but that won't make your door shut any better if its bent.

its had a smash into a deer :-" but i think the door was dodgy before that happened .. must be the latch, how much would it cost in a garage to get it fixed ??

i had the same problem with mines until a couple days ago. i just loosened the 2 screws where the door clicks onto when closed. and adjusted it to suit. took about 10mins to get it right. don`t need to take the screws right out. just out a little bit and it will move up/down/side to side. i would try that.

ps - mine didn`t click open when driving though.

sorry to hijack this thread but, steviet, do you mean the black section of the door pinned to the car, not a part of the door itself but where the lock hooks round? Because my drivers door is a bit dodgy, it seems to drop compared to the passenger so when closing seems asthough it gets shifted up, doesnt sound nice when i close it either lol.

aye thats the bit mate. if you loosen the 2 torx bolts it move about to suit. you won`t get it first time takes a few attemps to get it right

well the bottom of my door sticks out a little i could get a picture this weekend, but when it opens it doesnt open completely its like when you close the door you need to push it in softly to get the second click.. but when u hit a bump it pops out the second catch but the first catch holds it....

When you say the door doesn`t open completely are you able to pull the door to its widest opening? If you can`t then have a look at the check strap also make sure the rubber door seal isn`t preventing closure.

Steve.

what i meant what when your driving along it doesnt come completely off the latch when your driving, it opens up fine when you pull the handle..

Mine does exactly the same. I've got a VTR Mk2. Been doing it a while but has got worse recently (somehow seems to be worse when it's cold). If I try to slam the passenger door it will kind of bounce back so that it's only latched on to the first latch. I have to give it a push to close it properly but it will pop open on motorways or going over speed bumps etc. Tried locking it today but still happened. :wall:

Would sliding the latch in a bit help?
