How much oil do u use??

Hi all, just wondering how much oil you lot go through in your cars...

I just got mine back, got a new engine in it, 1.8 16V, had about half oil in it on dip stick, but that didn last too long... probobly about 2 weeks... noticed as the engine was making a ticking noise, check my oil and it was very low...

but i cant see why... i cant seem to see a leak, as i got no oil marks on my drive, its not burning oil from what i can tell, and there is no "mayo" under the oil cap...

Just stuck some 5w-40 full synthetic oil in now and will see how long that lasts... sounds ALOT better tho, no ticking noise or anything...

Got a friend with a 1.6 Zafira thats similar too.

but another mate of mine as a 1.8 16v SRI and he has never put oil in it since he bought it way before i got mine so i was like WTF haha

i kno!! but i seriously have no idea where its going at all...


can the way you drive drasticaly change the amount of oil it uses?? like if u drive at high revs all the time??

i dont exactly drive eco friendly but im not one to boot it 24/7 ether...

I work for VW and some of the engines can apparently burn up-to 1 litre of oil every 750 miles, sounds excessive I know but on some engines it is 'normal' especially when the engine is new

every 500 ish miles my dipstick always reads that there is a minimum amount of oil left, when 500 miles ago it was half way along the dipstick reading. Mines purely because I am very slowly losing oil as the seal around the rocker cover has worn and cracked over ten years.

Doesn't sound right to me that you're burning so much oil.

hmmm well this engine is from an Auto Astra and only had done about 30k.

Not its been rewired and now in my manual and i have probobly done about 600 miles but still... thats alot of oil to be burning for that many miles isnt it??? lol

Just because it doesnt use it doesnt mean that it doesnt need it!

My mums car doesn't really use oil either tbh.

Just top it up every couple of months.

Exactly the same, even though theres a tiny leak from the rocker seal!
