Hi
I am new to this forum & i am looking for a bit of advice if possible,
I have never had a VTS before so i could do with a few pointers, I am looking to buy a VTS to use on track days so i have a couple of questions if anyone can help.
1: Are the standard brakes any good ?
2: What are the essential engine mods for a bit more acceleration ?
3 :What should i be looking to pay for a 99 T plate car ?
Any advice will be appreciated.
thanks

Brake wise due to saxo's low weight the brakes arnt to bad, however your likely to cook them on a track. Some people go for a 4pot brake conversion but thats if you budget can stretch that far. By advice would be to uprate the disc's and pads (check out kam racing's deal atm) Braided hose's all round and an upgrade to dot5 fluid
Esential mods for acceleration: Firstly you want to sort out the breathing. so its a full decat exhaust (try supersprint etc) 4-2-1 / 4-1 manifold. and an upgraded air filter, something along the lines of a bmc or raceland carbon with green upgrade.
Make sure its well serviced though i.e. oil changes / belts / etc, theres no point doing all this on a totaly ragged engine.
Perofrmance wise after you could be lookign at cam's and a remap. then the worlds your oyster with possibilites such as throttle bodies or even a turbo / super charger.
However if your using it for the tracks strip it completely. you will notice a massive difference in the way it peroforms when its been on a diet.
Not sure price wise they all vary depending on milage etc, but you can pay between 2 and even 4k for a good example.
Also worth while looking into suspension. A car with a decent suspension set up will easily be faster round a track than a car with standard suspension and more horse power. so even a standard enginevts with a good suspension set up will be fast round a track. And saxo's are allways said to be good handling little cars.
Suspension wise look for:
Springs and dampers, Blistien (reccommend Group N dampers and falkner springs for track use- kam racing again)
Upper and lower strut braces
Poly bushes
If your taking this seriously then really consider a cage, it will save your life if you roll it
And a good set of tyres, Toyo R888's are a popular choice for sh*t to a blanket capabilities.
You can also try and save weight by getting plexiglass windows / firbreglass boot & bonnet. Even relocate battery to boot to aid weight balance.
Theres a whole load that goes into preparing your car for trackdays but its all worth it when you can out handle most bigger cars round the twisties.

It will cost you round 5000-12000 euros.i wanted do that but mate that is an awful money takin sport.it is cheaper to buy already sportscar.you can find them about 8-15000 euros.the price of saxo vts is about 10000 euros.i am giving you information what i know.maybe in england they are cheaper.
But my question is for what kind of racing do you want vts?circle or tarmac rallies

standard brakes on a vts are shit, if your staying with standard get uprated pads at least. or depending on what wheels your runing on track you can use pug 266 or 283 brake set up, much better than standard.

1: Are the standard brakes any good ?
On track not really, unless you buy some mintex fast road pads m1144. Normally people go for 266mm brakes
2: What are the essential engine mods for a bit more acceleration ?
To help the engine breath more, the usuals are induction kit, exhaust.
Search the forum for what people usually go for.
Supersprint seems to be a favourite at the moment.
3 :What should i be looking to pay for a 99 T plate car ?
Roughly £1,000 for a one in good condtion. At the most £1,500 for a minter.
A key thing you didnt ask was suspension, i would start with suspension and brakes before spending money on exhausts and inductions kits, thats just my opinion.
Another way of going faster is to stip it, but if using it on the road, you can just take the back seats out for track, thats all i do.
Have a search about mate, there is tons of usefull threads regarding stuff like this :y:

I tend to dis-agree to a degree, depending on the track of course.. for the ring uprated breaks are a must as your constantlly breaking from high speeds. I could not belive how much I missed not having my 4 pot hi-specs when I was there,
Croft for example, there is only 2-3 heavy breaking points or so I found. I ran standard breaks + normal mintex pads (not the m1144's) and found I dident have a problem at all through the day. That may down to my driving style though.. if your not going sideways your not going fast enough :P

Steve, James your both wrong, they are both wrong :}
Brembo Disc's with ferdo DS pads, then you will get the best of both worlds for trach and road

lets say depends on the track, i never fried my 266mm at croft but did at rockingham, depends on how many corners there is.
But i did say standard brakes are good with mintex m1144 pads ;)
BTW i run cheap discs and pads with my 266mm and it showed at rockingham, croft didnt really notice them till i came off track and nearly crashed haha
lmao just read if its not sideways, you D.K on the side?

you mean brembo discs then?
need to be clearer when you say "uprated brakes (brembo)" as that would normally mean calipers ;)

Thanks for all the reply's, the track the car will be used on is croft.
I will need to wait 30 days till i can have a look in the classidfieds section to see what cars are for sale on this forum.
The car will purely used for track use as i already have a megane R26 for road use.
if you uprate the brakes eg, 266 mm do you need new calipers or some kind of fitting kit ?

Croft is a great track, very good for saxos and pretty straight forward, myself steve and james have all been on there.
Are you local to croft then?

For £2000 i reckon you could get a decent T reg. Strip it out, get a group N suspension kit, supersprint exhaust, & a raceland filter & you'd be good to go on track.
Then depending how you feel about the setup you can upgrade the discs or pads, or go for a whole new 266mm setup from a 206, or a step further (and requiring 15" alloys) with 283mm of the GTi-6 or further again with some brembo/wilwood/hi spec 4 pots & 283mm discs.
If its the suspension you wanna put your money in you can whack 22 or 23mm torsion bars in the rear, and/or polybush all the mounts.
If its engine then you could look at some catcam 708s or newman ph3's & a remap for an extra 20-30bhp.
Thats the way i look at it anyway. Obviously the more desirable mods you can buy on the car the cheaper the lot will be too.
www.kam-racing.com for all the bits you'll wanna bolt on, theres a club discount section too ;)

About 10 mins from croft,
I have now put a deposit on a car today so hopefully will pick it up next week.
It is a 98 on an S reg in white, buying it from a lad who has a vts track car as well in the north east.
Car looks nice & the engine sounds nice & quiet as well. Just need to start the project now, without ruining the car.

Why not use the R26? ;)
Use the R26 for going to the nurburgring, tyres & brakes are just 2 expensive to wear in a track day.
so hence I have now deposited a vTS for fun.

Standard brakes aren't that bad at all on track as long as you're running decent pads and brake fluid.
Out of the box, the vts is great on track imo and I think it'd be worthwhile doing your first trackday in std guise first and then see where you think it needs upgrading.

I paid just over £600 for my 1999 S reg VTS, i love mates rates had reasonably high mileage but mate owned it from new and was well looked after, i have uprated brakes pads for the time being, it is completely stripped bar 2 bucket seats and it has got a Viper Induction Kit, Strut Brace, Sportex Decat Exhaust System and is getting suspension done in couple of weeks, i also have a golf MK4 1.8 GTI 150BHP and the saxo leaves it for dust.
