Seen this, I think it's wrong tbh.

We pay excessive insurance, fuel with WAY too much tax on it, road tax etc.

But they can still tell how fast your going although they say this will not be used to catch people speeding

Ok so i do 100mph on the motorway and only have to pay the charge i think not lol

Luke
6th November 2008, 13:06
What pisses me off is that....

I pay £63 a tank of fuel which last 10 days (520/550 miles)
£90 a year road tax
£94 a month insurance
£XX Maintenance

Now they want £1.30 a mile - would cost me £52 a day!

Hell.Yes.

When/if I break up with my girlfriend/lose my job I am just gonna pack and and go haha. Meet me at the airport...

Yeah, it's like that insurance that you pay as you go!

Stuff like this will never be implemented in my eyes in the current climate.

Im totally against this but i feel people are not understanding what they are saying.
the £1.30 rate is for the most congested roads which they say only 0.5% of motorsists would pay that amount.

Its still totally ridiculous and big brother like.

Am I missing something but isnt road tax meant to be for paying for the ability to drive on roads, the roads maintenance etc please correct me if im wrong and what car tax is actualy for.

So isnt this to pay to use roads again... :wall:

BenSilverSaxo
6th November 2008, 15:49
As said £1.30 is the max per mile you would pay, on the most congested roads.

Road tax would also be knocked on the head. I think its much fairer tbh, you only pay for what you use. Fuel would also come down if they did this.

Pat_Vts
6th November 2008, 15:51
wouldnt bother driving if this occurred would just cycle everywhere

I agree in theory. However, some people (like me) have to travel for work and do end up using the most congested roads and so would end up paying the full amount.

Also whilst the fuel tax may come down at the beggining, but I would bet all my worldly posessions that it would creep back up over time

I would be with it IF it worked on the lines of..

No road tax
Cheaper insurance
VERY cheap petrol ...

Maybe a couple other things.

Although it's like having a contract phone, at the minute we've all got unlimited texts bolt-on ... do what we want when we want as much as we want and pay a one off fee.

This is kinda getting like P&G or a contract with limited minuites .. anything over you pay more.

lol @ myself reffering to phone contracts *stops looking at a new one...*

Theoretically the devices could be used to monitor a drivers speed, but ministers claim they will not be used for this purpose.

BULLSHIT.

For how long? lol.

Just another government money making scheme.

It is yeah, but when was the last time you drove on a road that was in good condition or wasn't covered in pot holes!
The roads round my area are crap! Had to claim 3 tyres back off the council in the past 2 years.

Stupid idea, flat out stupid lthough, Good for people in the valleys :P we got back roads everywhere hehe.

Some one knowing where you are and the speed your driving is just creepy. This country is becoming like a reality show tbh. Policing at its max ability here.

i wont happen with those prices, its the media scaremongering again. You really think the economy could handle that kind of massive change? It will be set up so the average person is paying a litt;e bit more than they are now

it will mate... but the thing is they'll remove road tax all together (which lets face it ISN'T a fair method of taxation) and lower the cost of duty

Basically it'll fuck up long distance drivers, and people that go to and from work at normal times...

brilliant fucking idea that was... cunts.

TU-Tuning
7th November 2008, 00:23
Yeah deffo. But what i mean is at those costs, EG 1.30 a mile there are so many people that would fall into the 9-5 bracket that it would fuck the economy up at those prices, no one would have any disposable income etc. And there will have to be a special clause for couriers, haulers, delivery drivers etc or it just wont work

Barry123

cant say I agree with it... I know we need to use our cars less and all that shite (in fact I think I fall into the bracket of highish mileage really 20k per year :err: )

but it does seem a massively crap plan... pay as go yes, but that needs to be balanced in some respect or factored into what type of car you drive.

Lambo i.e. big polluter,
therefore should have a HIGH HIGH rate of ££ per mile
daewoo Matiz i.e. shittiest car on mother earth (but cheap to run)
should have a LOW rate of £££ per mile.

sorted.

£45 200-260miles
£310 a year tax
£400 year insurance
£55 MOT

30k mile a year

Duno how they will charge, but that could become tiresome with a lot of miles.

Even if I averaged 25p a mile thats still (UK£ 0.25) * 30 000 = 7500 British pounds.

So surely they'd get rid of car tax / reduce duty on fuel etc. But then what stops you from buyin a big V8 that does 15mpg?

Eitherway doubt it will happen. :y:

Very true. Although you could say that high performance car owners are already paying enough in petrol and insurance, if theyre hammered with seriously heavy tax, cars like imprezas and evos with theyre 'practical performance' motto will all but die out. Which is not cool imo

In all fairness, I cant believe they dont just do the obvious and most fair option; make fuel free, remove all forms of car taxing and insure anyone with a national insurance number fully comp on behalf of the governement.
