Basically had my desktop for a while little old and also have a laptop which is alot better but wanting to build a new desktop
i want it to be pretty decent looking at AMD as its bit cheaper ddr2 as ddr3 is bit expensive atm dont mind a bundle or something on eBay
so i need
motherboard
RAM want at least 2GB if not 4GB
chip + heatsink etc
new hardrive maybe 500GB
new power supply
maybe a new wireless card
graphics card doesnt have to be the best but maybe a decent one
thats about it so if you could point me to some good stuff already had a look about...dont mind it being intel if its a good price aswel :y:

£800 budget.
Biostar TPOWER i45 Mobo,
Intel Q6600,
OCZ 4 GB (2x2GB) Reaper 1066MHz RAM,
ATI HD4870 graphics card,
Decent PSU,
Decent HDD (possibly a 10k raptor)
Antec 1200 case / something similar perhaps a Thermaltake Armor (samvts style.)
Cheap £15 Dual layer DVD writer.
Boom.

CPU; Intel E220 Dual Core 2.0Ghz X2.
RAM, Corsair DDR2 2GB
PSU; OCZ STEALTH 600w or CoolerMaster iGreen is top's best one I ever has
GFX; Nvidia 8600GT (Cheap budget card and run's the latest game's on medium setting's)
Harddrive; Maxto 160GB 7200RPM
Case; Personal choice really and depend's upon which size mobo you want mATM or ATX. If going cheap (CoolerMaster Elite) if not best case money can buy is Antec Nine Hundred.
Mobo; Really not too sure as am tying this without looking on any website's but I would go for a Gigabyte or ABIT board as they are decent.
CDRW Driver, doesn't really matter at all just get one to match case :y:
Optional's if spair cash? Thermal grease upgrade? CPU heatsink/fan upgrade? Additional RAM (Although 2 is ample)
All them part's should be avaliable on ebuyer at probably the most cheapest price's on the net, not sure on total but I would say that would total 300/350 inc postage maybe? Check it out mate, or if need any more help give us ahout used to build/competative game for year's so know my stuff :y:

Or and BTW personally I would go Intel but I have run 2 AMD machine's in the past and they where fine but I find with the more demanding program's Intel never let's you down :y:

Yer I would say the 900 is mate, Went to i32 (gaming event) and was one the first to see the antec 1200 on release and it extremely more pricey and just does not match the 900. CoolerMaster case's are ok but what there best is the Cosmos, well frankly that is just awfully to big and shaped awful. So yer I would say the 900 is due to look's, cooling (2x 12cm fan's, 1x 20cm fan) psu fitment on lower floor ect ect
When you said budget I thought you meant real budget if not get a Intel Q660 Quad Core then ... Price dropped load's on them as been out a while now but power is still imense.
Karl
7th November 2008, 13:27
Antec 900.
Less cable/drive bay management.
Less airflow.
£30 difference approx between that and a 1200,
hardly extreme is it?
so how it doesnt match the 900 I dont know what you mean.
Sure its a nice case for £70 (the 900.) i'd rather just spend a tonne and get a 1200.
Baker,
I overclocked to 2.7GHz but its not very stable as I have a shitty 450w PSU.
need to upgrade.
People have had 3.6GHz out of these on air cooling.
Youtube it.

Just seen this,
Id go for an ITEL Q6600 if your getting a new motherobard aswell. I went AMD as my exisiting mobo is AM2.
RAM id always use corsair XMS. Samsung F1 series hard drive and a 9800GTX+ graphics card.
Karl
7th November 2008, 13:38
Daryl, can you download HD Tach please and run it on your F1 Spinpoint please.
9800 GTX is a good shout.
I have a lol9600GT, gonna be swapping that badboy for a HD4870 @ Chrimbo I reckons.

lower clocked core2duo > higher clocked amd chip...
you should of atleast offered a budget...
but q6600+p35 mobo+2gig+graphics card if you game? ati 4850.., branded psu so that it lasts... some aftermarket cooling if your overclocking TRUE120+ aftermarket fan

+
http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=411
samsung f1 are the best hard drives out atm... but there holding there price well compared to some of the seagates for not much less performance you can potentially get more storage..
Stickyjam
7th November 2008, 20:08
o and if ya read the latest issue of custom pc they did a review on cases showing how poorly laid out basically ALL cases were ... the antec 1200 was considerably better at cooling than the antec 900, the extra fans really make a difference at keeping temps lower...

The geforce 9800GTX+ is a briliant card for £130. Or you could get a Geforce 260 GTX for £204.
I do like the sound of the Radeon 4870 but its just the ATI catalyst drivers i have always found to be shockingly crap...... unless they have got their act together. I Always go Nvidia tbh.
Another option for the CPU is a Intel Core 2 Duo 8500+ maybe? They clock to stupid speeds such as 4.6ghz on air coolers!!!!!!
