Put just under £20 in last Saturday as already had half a tank full.
Didn't think anything untill I looked down and saw petrol on the ground thats when I knew it was full, reset the trip and had done about 1000 miles since I last filed it up to the top.

The petrol "gun" thing stops giving out petrol when the tank is full, as the handle just keeps slipping type thing

the petrol pump clicks off when you get to the top, when the fuel touches the end of the nozzle

do it every week and a half, as im a delivery driver as well as a student. Costs about 48 quid from a completely dry tank, and then a few clicks once its full as you can still get a lot more in there when it clicks

I only do a proper tank fill when I'm going on a longish journey. Most of the time I'll stick £10-15 a week in.

Same here, just keeps the car happy if its got fuel in it.
Had to drive it on the light before just to get to a petrol station and the nearst one's about 6miles from here, and the quickest way is along a back road, or go along the dual carrige way for 6 miles in the opposite direction.

Same as me only £20 per time unless im going down south.

Has anyone worked out how much 20 litres of fuel weighs to find out if its cheaper to put 40 in or 2 lots of 20?

Read that if the tank is half full and you fill to the brim you get more petrol for your moneys worth, whereas if you fill from empty get slightly less petrol for your money. Google it. It's around somewhere :y:

So really the weight of the petrol / money you lose filling up from empty to half a tank probably equals each other out in MPG. Probably don't make much sense, i'm confused typing it.

Was in 5 money/petrol saving tips when the fuel prices were high lol.

daz_rt_04
7th November 2008, 14:53
^^^ so 40 litres of fuel weighs in at 28kg.

food for thought. lol

Spend £40 a week in petrol.

Thats like 300 miles a week?

300 x 52 = 15600 miles a year :fcuk:

I keep mine between 3/4 and 1/4. Never to the top, never empty.

Unless i go on long journeys then its to the brim.

400 miles a week, sometimes 500.

400 x 52 = 20,800

500 x 52 = 26,000

Mostly all private mileage :P

I spend £45 a week. It's so annoying. Would love to work walking distance of work or have a pool car to use. Would be so much easier!

Paul
7th November 2008, 15:06
I have just worked out if i used my car for getting to and from work only ...

I would do 1820 Miles a year and spend £260 in petrol a year.

Shame i use my car for personal use aswell :n:

biz69
7th November 2008, 15:35
i have no idea in the saxo as i have only drove it 39.7 miles since i got it on the 15th oct lol
my old focus i use to fill right up every 10 days which was 400 miles

most manufactures say in the manual you can fill up till the second click ;)

Predator_R32
7th November 2008, 15:38
more petrol in tank adds more weight lol, ive only got up to 3/4 of a tank this year

have had it full to the brim before though

i over filled mine once the car fucking stunk of petrol. It was leaking under the back seat had to silicon seal the lad!#

I normally put in 35 litres so i have some space still in the tank

ricksimmonds
7th November 2008, 15:56
fill up on payday until its almost spilling out the tank and hope it lasts the month. i like to be optimistic

Jackman
7th November 2008, 17:57
The way i see it is that if i have a full tank i know in my head i have loads of petrol to burn, which results in it getting burnt pretty fast.

Whereas if i have half a tank i tend to be more careful.

Plus its to cold to stand at a pump for to long atm.

That wouldn't do much, seeing as petrol melts silicon sealant more or less instantly.

I fill up a about 6 times a month from empty to brim.

i often run mine down to quater of a tank, then fill it right up, but these days i can affort it.....

this is what it cost me to fill my b6 passat when i had only 50 miles left in the tank,as you can see from the price of pence per litre, its going back a few months now, when i went to the ring.

Just a few hints:
1) only fill up when its cold(pref mornings), the fuels carbons are smaller so u get more, than when the carbs are bigger meaning less fuel.
2) Fill up when half empty/full, so less vapour in tank=more space for fuel.
3) there are 2/3 speeds of petrol release on the nossels, the slower, the more fuel, just takes longer...

alex19
8th November 2008, 00:26
So basically, everyone should go down to tesco extra at 7am and take 50 minutes to fill there car up from half a tank full? ;)

evans1089
8th November 2008, 00:51
yep and in the long run, you'll save more money with the amount of fuel you get... i read it somewhere :P
