Hi folks,

should be getting a PS3 tomorrow and i know it is fairly simple to change over the drives in them. you need a 2.5" sata laptop hard drive after doing some reading.

Can anyone recommend me some hard drives that would be compatible, as far as i know i only need 5400rpm as no real difference from a 7200rpm drive.

would like big sizes at fair prices, Help! :y:

All you need to know is:
54000rpm
Sata Drive (I believe)
no more than 320gb (otherwise won't work) although people with 320gb have had problems on start up issues.
2.5 size (laptop)

And it will be compatible with your PS3.

Yup :A:

playstation made the ps3 so that you could change it yourself withou voiding the warranty, providing tht the hard drive does not exceed the 5200rpm limit on the drive :y:

You can go as big as you want.

There were some reports of some owners who used WD (westen digital)320gb hdd's having problems but other than that you can go as big as you want(well as big as the biggest hdd drive which is available which i think is 500gb)

Its also possible to get an adapter in place of the internal hdd so you can use a 3.5 external hdd as you "internal" drive.

I personally have a 250gb drive and have had no problems. ALthough ive started to download alot of HD movies which is filling the hdd quickly as the Typical file size of a movie in HD is 5 - 15 gb
